Confirmed sighting: "Pomegreat" pomegranate juice drink
Posted: 18:52 Sat 12-04-2003. Location: Waitrose, North London. Nutritional unusualness: 7% Aronia juice (aka black chokeberry).
Snackspot reports: At last rectifying the lack of pomegranate-based products on the UK's shop-shelves, the ingeniously-named Pomegreat claims to be both "free from artificial colours, preservatives and sweeteners", and "refreshingly different". In practice, it's more like cranberry juice for people who don't like the taste of cranberries, or a slightly fruitier version of water that's had rose petals left in it overnight. In other beverage stories, today's issue of The Grocer magazine has the news that Pepsi plan to launch Pepsi Vanilla this summer in the US, plus an orange-flavoured "LiveWire" Mountain Dew to tie-in with the film of The Incredible Hulk. The Gordon's Gin Edge alcopop has been axed (the one with that terrible TV ad where things keep getting sliced off), and - in an unrelated development - someone left two empty plastic bottles of what looked like an import of "Wild Strawberry Fanta" in the gutter outside my house last week.

Comment: For anyone who can't get enough "black chokeberry" in their lives, Sainsbury also do a 1-litre ambient carton of Aronia & Raspberry juice drink as part of their "fabulously fruity!" range. It tastes mainly of raspberry but the Aronia element seems to add some extra texture, like a slightly thicker version of black grape juice.

Comment: Wild strawberry Fanta! I remember finding a bottle of that in a Somali grocers in Whitechapel last year, with funny foreign (possibly Arabic) writing on it. It was the most disgusting drink I've ever tasted, soapy, artificial, and following Fanta's trademark "as much sugar as can possibly be saturated" sweetness.

Comment: I am absoulotelty addicted to the pomegrante juice, on its own it is slightly sour but if u drink the one with rasberry in it, it is sweet and delicious. I love it!

Comment: I also love Pomegreat! Unfortunately, we don't have it here in Germany. So I am really looking forward to the next trip to the UK! This night I even dreamt about it! How weird!
