Confirmed sighting: McVities Mini Cheddars Peperami Limited Edition
Posted: 18:11 Thu 24-04-2003. Price: 38p. Location: Works Canteen. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
"Dan P" reports: These caught the eye, being a reasonable fan of Mini Cheddars, and Peperami - and of course the fact that they were a Limited Edition. Once open the Peperami odour was pretty pungent, and a good imitation of real "Peperami" (whatever that is). Taste was a little too cheesy, not strong enough in the "Spicy meat snack flavour" department I'm afraid. I did notice some little bits of flavoring in the pack, like mini lumps of Oxo, and these actually tasted pretty good. More flavour please McVities... These might have been kicking around for a while, but this excellently informative sighting (plus scan of the hastily-torn apart wrapper) handily coincides with their main advertising push. Also it's a chance to reveal the new Walkers Sensations crisp flavours due over the next month or so: Chinese Spare Rib, Oriental Lemongrass & Coconut, Red Pepper & Tomato Salsa and (of course) Slow Roasted Lamb & Mint.

Comment: "Bit of an animal" - I wish, these mildly tangy bites do not improve upon the toe cheese taste delivered by the standard cheddars. No sign of that tasty pepperami animal, except for perhaps his dung found in small clumps at the bottom of the bag, as previously discovered by 'Dan P'.

Comment: It is my duty to report that the "reasonable fan of Mini Cheddars" in question, Dan P, has been spotted attempting to recover a packet of Original Mini Cheddars precariously teetering inside a vending machine. I have reason to believe that Mr P *did not pay* for these Cheddars, but was in fact attempting to defraud catering services, and benefit from the misfortune of another Mini Cheddar fan (who was no doubt already traumatised by the inefficient vending of Cheddars).

Comment: I can only find these in petrol stations. I spotted some a while back, bought a pack and didn't like them. They were ok, but not as nice as original

Comment: Is this the right room for an argument?

Comment: 'good imitation of real "Peperami" (whatever that is)'. Real Peperami claims to be not less than 100% meat despite listing spices as one of the ingredients...now, which "spice" is entirely made of meat?

Comment: In reply to Perkin Warbeck, I think the answer comes from the fact it is semi-dried. So for 100g of finished product they use at least 100g of meat, and the loss of moisture means they can add extra ingredients and still claim 100% meat.

Comment: perkin - Peperami is "not less than 100% meat" despite containing other things because the meat loses weight as its cooked.

spbm - I've told you once.

Comment: My explanation was better. And I was first anyway so I win, ner ner.

Comment: So is that why the pack claims to contain 108% pork? I had been wondering for some time about that, and in fact came here to find the answer. Er, thanks!

Comment: So you get the percentage of cow's arseholes in peperami by dividing the weight of cow's aresholes that went in by the weight of the finished product? In that case, dried apricots are about 500% apricot. What a load of cock.
