Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: McCain "Smouldering Vibes" Hot Crisps
Posted: 13:16 Wed 07-05-2003. Price: Free. Location: Tesco, Brent Cross, NW2. Nutritional unusualness: See below.
Snackspot reports: Attention all Snackspotters - at time of writing, McCain were giving these away outside the big Brent Cross Tesco (though only to people who looked like they'd just been shopping there). You get 150g (about 20) frozen potato slices (with the skin left on) which, after 10-15 mins of grilling or baking or frying, turn into the sort of dusted-with-Pringles-flavouring spicy snack you might be offered in a Harvester or sophisticated wine bar. Disappointed to find no microwave option though. If you do go and pick up a packet, could you ask them why the packet emphasises "Made from real grown-in-the-ground potatoes"? Do McCain have access to some other kind?

Comment: These babies are positively dripping in fat. They really don't seem to live up to the claim of being crisps. In reality they are just another oven based potato snack........ with a nice "wedges" flavouring. Disappointing

Comment: I was handed some of these in January in Hammersmith. They looked so dubious that they are still in the work freezer compartment.

Comment: Waitrose (Woodley, Reading) have been selling them for most of this year. I would cook them a little bit longer than they suggest to get them really crispy. Overal nice, but haven't bought a second pack.

Comment: you know when you're walking on the beach and sand blows in your mouth? well that is exactly what these babies taste like.
