Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Starburst Sour Chews
Posted: 17:12 Thu 05-06-2003. Price: 33p a packet. Location: Spar, Bath. Nutritional unusualness: 5% real fruit juice.
"Stuart Campbell" reports: It's been a long time since I ate a real cherry, so I don't know, but do they taste of marzipan? Like so many other cherry-flavour sweets, Starburst Sour Chews' cherry variety inexplicably tastes almost exactly like marzipan, only this time it's sour marzipan. Blegh. Happily, the other flavours (pineapple, wild raspberry and an extremely appley apple flavour) are much nicer, and as an extra bonus, sour as a bastard. So, like ordinary Starburst since they brought the blackcurrant ones in, a 75% success. For the benefit of the Starburst completist, it's worth noting that the US version of Sour Chews is currently available from UK importer Cybercandy, amid a range of other acidic eccentricities. And, on the subject of "x% real fruit" products, consumers of Kellogg's Real Fruit Winders are being invited to vote on the next flavour to be added to the range, with "tropical" currently leading lemon and raspberry, even though the dominant ingredient in most of them appears to be "pear".

Comment: Just had these as well.

very nice-despite only 4 flavours. I thought they tasted a bit like sour skittles though(UK kind).

also, they weren't as chewy.

A nice change.

Comment: Excellent. They really are as 'Sour as a bastard'. Difficult to find though. A newsagent whistled through his teeth and shook his head when I asked him if he had any in stock. He actually made me feel that offering a note would make him remember where he had some stored.

Comment: I don't think the cherry flavour taste of marzipan at all, i'm more inclined to think they taste of lipstick; cheap, old lipstick. 29822 6 6 40
