Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Walkers French Fries Fish And Chips Flavour
Posted: 12:18 Mon 09-06-2003. Price: 28p. Location: Local newsagents, Norwich. Sub-flavours: Cheese and onion, salt and vinegar... y'know. Nutritional unusualness: Little 'fish shaped potato snacks' alongside the normal french fries.
"Matthew" reports: Oddly, I found this before I saw it on the Walkers trade site for once. Quite nice, actually. Similar flavouring used to the old fish and chips biscuits you used to be able to get, with the added bonus of the nice fish potato things. The fries themselves get bland very quick, tho. Recommended. And comiserations to snack-spotter Pat Smith, who located this limited edition the day before Matthew in Sainsbury's in Keighley, West Yorkshire, but sent in a picture of the packet from the Walkers site instead (like I wouldn't notice!). Anyway, the site also reveals that the Tangy Tomato and Red Pepper Salsa Sensations are only available in the bigger 150g packets (and are, by the way, their blandest, most Kettle Chips-like flavour to date), while this week's edition of The Grocer magazine reports that Burts No Salt potato chips should be more widely available in smaller 40g bags soon.

Comment: Just picked up a pack of these from the UEA UFO. They are rather tasty, far less salty than the nasty salt and vinegar flavour types.

Comment: My first packet had no "fish" in it. Not a single one. Luckily the second one did, so I can now comment that they're really nice. Not much like Burtons Fish&Chips at all, really. More like there was some kind of explosion at the Walkers factory which took out the prawn cocktail, tomato ketchup and baked bean flavouring vats, but then someone sifted all the bits of burnt metal out and dunked some French Fries in the big pile of mixed-up powder. And, er, added some fish shapes made out of the same stuff as Pom-Bears and Kangaroos. Ace. 10186 7
