Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: McDonald's Strawberries and Cadbury Dream McFlurry
Posted: 19:24 Sun 22-06-2003. Price: 99p. Location: McDonald's, Regent St, London. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
Snackspot reports: the Bacon Cheeseburger (also 99p) was nothing to write home about but this new McFlurry is a worthy addition to the range - the strawberry sauce adds just the right amount of tang to offset the dull-tasting but texturally novel chunks of Cadbury's white chocolate Dream. It's almost - but not quite - as good as summer 2001's Strawberry Crunch McFlurry, still regarded round here as one of McDonald's top sundae products of all time. In other refrigerated dessert-related developments, The Grocer has recently reported on the debuts of: three new Entenmann's ice-cream cakes (Sticky Toffee, Carrot Cake and Mango Passionfruit) which "can be eaten straight from the freezer"; a limited edition Newcastle Brown Ale ice-cream tub ("with Newcastle Brown fudge chunks"); plus the double-whammy of Mighty Tasty Hulk Layered Dessert and Incredible Tasty Hulk Yogurt (1.19 for pack of four).

Comment: hey, I've just been "researching" American ice-cream products, and do you reckon the McFlurry might have been in some way inspired by the Dairy Queen Blizzard?: http://www.dqtexas.com/blizz.html

Comment: firstly - yes, indeed, the strawberry and dream version is wonderful; the only glitch is the strawberry bits often just get squished before you can eat them

secondly: the dairy queen blizzard is like a mcflurry in the same way that donny osmond is a bit like brad pitt. the blizzard is a mighty beast indeed. Mint oreo dairy queen blizzards are worth the trip to the states all on their own

Comment: These are the bomb! They are my summer 2003 addiction.

However the wrong amount of mixing can ruin it slightly. Some maccy D staff don't mix it enough and some mix it too much!

Comment: Speaking of Newcastle Brown ice cream, I have had Thayer's Black Beer ice cream and it's nice- like treacle but with that seaweedy undertone that dark ale has.

Comment: Haven't tried these because in the advert for them, the chunks of Dream look like cheese. I'm still waiting in vain for the return of the McDonald's ice-cream with Butterkist popcorn and sauce which was a liquid version of the Butterkist toffee coating. Truly magical.

Comment: I call it a McSlurry and say to heck w/it. Guess yours are better back in the home country.

Found in any major grocery chain back when the film first came out: HULK Vanilla artificial flavor JELLO-O Brand Instant Pudding. FEATURE: Pudding transforms green with milk. Quite alarming, I must say!

Comment: DQ's Blizzard far surpasses McD's McSlurry in flavour and taste, as well as choice: vanilla blended w/Snickers, mmmmmmm.
