Click pic to view comments International sighting: Kellogg's K-Time Muffin Bars
Posted: 18:39 Wed 16-07-2003. Price: $3-4.00 box (contains 5). Location: Melbourne, Australia. Sub-flavours: Apple and Cinnamon, Blueberry, Apricot. Nutritional unusualness: Individually wrapped rectangular muffins.
"Adrian Furby" reports: This one's for you "Bob" - not a "candy" this time... The packet says: "A deliciously moist oven baked muffin, made with wheat, oats and tasty fruit flavoured pieces". About 3 inches long, maybe 1 inch across. I tried the Blueberry version (Amanda has a box of them in her desk drawer). The fruit flavoured pieces certainly aren't pieces of fruit, but there was a definite blueberry flavour. The top of the muffin was sprinkled with mini-oats. It was very moist, and seemed to be more of a sponge finger than a muffin. Did it taste good? No. It was a bit sickly and the very moist texture was quite off-putting. I can't imagine anyone eating these every morning for breakfast, but maybe Kelloggs are going for the time-poor office worker market. And based on a sample of one (Amanda) that strategy seems to be working. Justin is coming in for lunch today so we'll get him to try one and he can post his thoughts about it a bit later on. Emma will just have to buy her own. Kudos once again to Furby and the team, especially for consistently providing his own high-quality product pics (always handy for spotting when they've been borrowed by other sites). In other cake-related updates: Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Blueberry Yoghurt Bar US has received Nutrition Action's coveted Food Porn award (PDF file, sorry), while Cadbury will be launching their own range of Mini Dipping Donuts in the UK this September (possibly to counter the imminent international expansion of Krispy Kreme).

Comment: Possibly off-topic but the Krispy Kreme expansion is just starting here - the first Krispy Kreme in Australia opened in New South Wales at Panther Palace (a rugby league club). The unique Krispy Kreme marketing blitz is now under way i.e. sending free donuts to gullible journalists to plug for free.
