Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Bassetts Mini Jelly Babies Tropical Fruit Flavours
Posted: 17:36 Mon 21-07-2003. Price: 99p. Location: Tescos, Norwich.
"David Allen" reports: Six different flavour jelly babies - Tangerine, Pineapple, Strawberry Crush, Cherry, Lemon and Lime and Exotic Fruits. The Lemon and Lime is the best - especially when eating a few at a time.

...David was, if anything, even more enthusiastic about the Sunshine Fruit Muller Corner, remarking "Pineapple, Grapefruit and Lemon flavour. Superb flavour yoghurt with good pieces of fruit", but it appeared to be a "Kellogg's insider" who reported that the imminent Kellogg Fruit Squidgers ("If you like the idea of fruit flavoured ketchup then you'll probably like these. Essential that they are eaten chilled in my opinion as they taste a bit off otherwise, the Blackcurrant is definitely best") may soon be followed by Fruit Squirters, explaining: These are similar in many ways to Rowntrees Bursting Bugs but have a far higher fruit content. Apparently release date is autumn '03. Basically a fruit gum with a hollowed out centre filled with fruit juice. Not bad and quite fruity but not exactly as ground breaking as Kellogg think. Unable to include a scan as the pack design has not been finalised yet, and samples were in plain silver foil packs.

Comment: Forgot to mention: their full name appears to be *Screamin* Fruit Squirters, while the new flavour for Fruit Winders looks likely to be "Tropical", in accordance with earlier Snackspot prophecy: http://www.snackspot.org.uk/thread.php?story=0306051712sbc

Comment: Would just like to add that I have just uncovered more info and the name of Screamin Fruit Squirters has been changed to Spurters. The folk in marketing once again proving they are out to pervert the young, but not in a good, Socrates kind of way. I have got my mits on some packaging shots of both Squidgers and Spurters so will forward those asap.

Comment: Thanks Mr K but please don't send them from your work computer in case you are identified as the "sexing up" source.

(Plus - almost as importantly - have they kept the "Screamin" in the name?)

Comment: the new kelloggs fruit squidgers are 59p each at a newsagents in northampton the only 2 they have were strawberry and blackcurrent, they are not very nice at all the strawberry one is like puting a spoon full of strawberry jam in your mouth

Comment: Have you really just used the phrases "not very nice at all" and "putting a spoon full of strawberry jam in your mouth" in the same sentence? And how have you got hold of them before even the sinister "Mr. K"??
Posted: 15:24 Wed 23-07-2003 by Snackspot # permalink comment
Comment: Don't panic Neil, the "Squidgers" are supposed to be generally available around now - it's the S[p|q]uirters which will be baffling elderly grandparents in the future...

Comment: There's a point-of-sale display for Screamin' Fruit Squidgers in Tescos; you have to put your hand through a screaming strawberry's mouth to get them. Apparently they're meant to be kept chilled once you've bought them, although they aren't in the shop.

Comment: Snackspot - thanks for the warning and have already made arrangements. I am in possession of Tony the Tigers secret dossier and may have some pics for you tonight! Also, the new recipe Frosties, Coco Pops, Rice Crispies and a new flaour chocolate Frosties bar are out in stores now I think. Much much better than the old version as you can actually eat these without having to have a pint of milk or water handy to prevent dehydration!

Squidgers - Definitely eat them cold from the fridge if they appeal to you. DO NOT eat them after they have been sat for a day or two in a warm car boot. Very unpleasant.

Comment: Blimey, is this another unofficial import? Also, does the UK version look like this?

(to be honest, Alex, it doesn't taste that nice - a bit like Raspberry Slush Puppy mixed with lemonade?)

Comment: I live in Pretoria , South Africa. About 8 years ago a Nestle Rowntree sweet product called "Teddy Tots" vanished from the SA markets. This was very dissappointing as the sweet was my and my familys all time favourite.I would dearly love to know whether this product is still being produced and if so where can I obtain them.

Comment: I'm also from South Africa and miss Teddy Tots! They were similar to Jelly Tots but not quite - the 'jelly' used was softer, less chewy, than the jelly used in the other types of tots I have found.
