Click pic to view comments International sighting: World Tour Latin Pepper Pringles
Posted: 14:18 Tue 22-07-2003. Price: 1.28. Location: Middelburg, Netherlands. Nutritional unusualness: Part of the Pringles World Tour.
"Marc Kloosterman" reports: I got word about the Spanish Salsa Pringles so I checked out my local supermarket. Not only did they have Salsa, but Latin Pepper as well! And above all, they were 3 for the price of 2 (which is about once a month at this Dutch chain of supermarkets for this product...) Anyway, the can shows the familiar Pringle-man (does he has a name?) with a white bakers hat. It makes him look like an Italian pizzabaker. Makes me wonder how much different Latin pepper tastes over other black peppers. Let's find out... [munch munch] It actually tastes like - original Pringles with pepper! Incidentally, the English contents table does NOT list Pepper as an ingredient..! [see correction below] My shelf of different flavor Pringles cans is full now! Still I seem to be missing 'Cheese' which apparently is available in Italy, according to http://www.pringles.it.

...Thanks for the ultra-enthusiastic sighting, Marc! What I want to know is: with all this research implying Junk food could be as addictive as cigarettes or heroin, will Pringles discontinue their "Once you pop, you can't stop" slogan, or be commended for truth in advertising?

Comment: Found while searching for that "addictive junk food" link:

- a truly jaw-dropping site "Promoting Personal Responsibility and Protecting Consumer Choice", which basically seems to mean "the right to eat as many potentially lethal foodstuffs as you like without realising".

Comment: I am .. erm.. had a closer look and erm... found out that -- besides dehydrated potatoes, vegetable oil, corn flour, *pepper flavour*, monosodium glutamate, disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate, lactose, milk proteins, maltodextrin, wheat starch, mono- and diglycerides of fatty acid (better known as E471) -- it DOES contain pepper (before P&G starts sueing my ass of).

Might be a hint of cocaine or nicotine aswell; I wouldn't know why it would be so damn addictive otherwise.

(okay, that claim is also a bit untrue)

Comment: As reported earlier, the purple Cheese & Onion cans have been replaced by green. Would this make way for http://www.ischo.com/china/photos_05.15.2001/img_1512.jpg ? :-s

Comment: I just discovered a new way to heat mini cheddars. A keen hillwalker, i take a packed lunch out with me every weekend. Always looking for something exciting to put in it. Was chomping away on a mouthful of cheddars on Sunday when for some reason I took a bite of a banana at the same time. Seriously wonderful - what a flavour. Would recommend it not only to hungry fresh air enthusiasts but to one and all who enjoy variety - it is the spice of life after all!!

Comment: There you have it: BBQ pringles will be purple, which is why Cheese & Onion is green now! And Latin Pepper and Spanish Salsa will be available until december '03.

Comment: I recently got back from Tenerife where my varied love of food and serious lack of money meant i ate far, far too many cheese pringles, I've now returned home and am having serious cravings for them but to my horror it seems no one imports them. I'm beginning to wonder if they may have been made illegal when they disappeared off our shelves a few y ears back due to their sheer addictiveness.
