Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: McVitie's Snickers Flapjack
Posted: 14:25 Thu 31-07-2003. Price: 75p. Location: B2, Clapham, London. Sub-flavours: none. Nutritional unusualness: Flapjack variant on the Snickers range.
"Alex Davies" reports: Imagine you've put a Snickers bar in a food mixer, add oats and a jar of golden syrup. Hey presto, you have the Snickers Flapjack. I found this concoction virtually inedible, despite being a fan of Snickers and, indeed, flapjacks. Reminiscent of the worst excesses of the dessert phase of primary school cookery lessons.

...OK, this isn't particularly new, but it is rarely seen following some sort of low-profile launch at the height of last summer - it seems to be related to McVitie's Berry Flapjack "delicious flapjack with cranberry fruit pieces". Frankly the Snickers tie-in doesn't quite have the appeal of licensing-crazed rival Bon Bon Buddies (requires Flash, sorry), currently launching everything from The Simpsons D'oh-nuts and Squishees to Winnie The Pooh's Rumbly Tumblies. Also, if anyone's going to the Edinburgh festival this year, they might want to check out Curly Wurly-based comedy show Nice Mum Are Chocolate Benders - presumably not quite as gay as it sounds.

Comment: Basically, it's a flapjack (a particularly tasteless one, and that's saying something) with peanuts and caramel, and topped with chocolate. You can't really taste anything in this, not even the choccy, though there are plenty of peanuts on it.

It was a bit too soft and crumbly - for some reason, the pack recommends "If refrigerated, ;eave for 60 minutes for best results" - I didn't see this until I'd eaten the thing - perhaps it might have tasted better if I had.

Comment: I didn't mind these too much, and the ones I've eaten were refrigerated so maybe it does help them. Perhaps a bit on the sickly side but not the worst flapjack I've ever had.

Comment: This can be found in BP-Safeway stores and is shockingly popular (more so than all the other flapjack type things at my local). It doesn't taste too bad when you're tired, but not recomended at any other time of day.
