Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: The Simpsons Frijj Limited Edition "Raspberry D'oh Nut" flavour milkshake
Posted: 11:58 Tue 12-08-2003. Price: 99p. Location: Texaco Star Service Station, Workingham Rd, Reading. Nutritional unusualness: "D'oh!...Nut?" Flavour.
"Diarmuid Mallon" reports: Yet another limited edition flavour from Frijj, but this time the flavour is backed up by the massive brand that is The Simpsons. Opening the bottle, there is a vague aroma of raspberries and something else. Likewise the drink does taste of raspberries, although a little too much like a powered milkshake than a pre-made one. In fact there is a fairly strong "Angel Delight" feel to the drink. But by the bottom of the bottle I would swear that I could taste the sprinkles on the Dohnuts! 30 minutes on I can still taste the drink, which may not be a great thing. Apologies for the poor picture, by the way - taken with a MMS phone. Oh and as I was by myself, there was no need for any falling off the shelf slight of hand.

...The pic's fine, Diarmuid - vive la "mobile blogging" revolution! There's a couple of other new drinks to look out for - refrigerated milk drink Yazoo Chill, low-carbohydrate Michelob Ultra beer - but any would be-Homers out there are no doubt more excited by Krispy Kreme Doughnuts planning to open 25 outlets in the UK over the next 5 years, the first in Harrods' fancy department store.

Comment: more on the Harrods/ Krispy Creme outlet - apparently due to open in October:

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/030805/chtu008_1.html

Comment: Re lo-carb beer "Anheuser-Busch is understood to have agreed an exclusive 12-week deal with Tesco to introduce the product. Critically, this will give the brewer access to Clubcard data which will allow it to develop a more detailed understanding of its target consumers' needs and, where necessary, refine its marketing strategy"

'target consumers' presumably being people 'doing Atkins'? Interesting.

Comment: Doughnuts... Harrods... just not seeing it. Will they have the 'HOT' sign outside the store so we can rush in when the Original Glazed come of the production line? No wonder they've lost the 'by Royal Appointment'. I was going to say in the old days this would never have happened, but as I can picture Fergie rush the store like the first day of sales at first showing of the 'hot' sign... I won't :-)

Comment: As if to answer your question:

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/030805/chtu008_1.html (again)

Accessible through the Harrods Food Hall, Krispy Kreme will also have its own designated street entrance and will be serving fresh hot Krispy Kreme doughnuts beginning at 7:00 a.m. daily. The store will include Krispy Kreme's doughnut-making theatre, allowing customers to see the doughnuts being made from start to finish. The store also will feature Krispy Kreme's traditional "Hot Doughnuts Now" sign, which when illuminated, announces to customers that Krispy Kreme's signature Hot Original Glazed doughnuts are being made.

- Lee can I eat these on the Atkins diet or have i got it the wrong way round?

Comment: yay! michelob ultra. i had this in the states and it was nice to be able to have beer when low carbing (obviously not the world's greatest brewing development if you drink real beer). interesting that in the us they don't have to label alcohol percentage so i am not sure how low alcohol it is...

Comment: http://www.commentwire.com/commwire_story.asp?commentwire_ID=4673 confirms that the UK version will be 5% - quite high for a Brit lager? What's more: "Light beers have also caused significant confusion amongst consumers; many have been known to wrongly assume that it indicates lower alcohol strength rather than low calories. The difficulties of appealing to consumers have also been experienced by Coors [RKY], which was forced to pull Coors Light from UK shelves earlier this year."
