Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Fruitella Citrus Sour
Posted: 12:24 Thu 14-08-2003. Price: 45p. Location: Newsagents, Seven Sisters tube station, London. Nutritional unusualness: 235% of the Recommended Daily Allowance of Vitamin C.
"James Mitchell" reports: Tagged as "chewy sweets with Vitamin C". And there's no mention on the packaging or display of this being a "limited edition". The sour taste is great, hits you straight away, isn't overwhelming and doesn't leave a hideous aftertaste. Falls down compared to regular Fruitella since there's only three flavours in the pack - grapefruit, lemon and orange - though, oddly, the ingredients list includes strawberry juice (3%). One plus is that the orange sweets taste a lot like a "Calippo" ice lolly, only small and chewy rather than large and hard (ooh-er missus).

...In other fruity - and not-so-fruity - chew news: this week's Grocer magazine reveals that the arrival of Wrigley's Extra Mints (due Sep 29) will officially mark the withdrawal of their X-Cite Gum Pearls, while next week sees the start of the UK Haribo Truck Tour, featuring "Computer games", a "Young Impressionists" contest, plus performances from Blazing Squad, 3rd Edge, and Romeo (from out of kiddies' favourites the "So Solid Crew").

Comment: wrigley's xcite - basically you get a box full of little pre-chewed spearmint gum pellets which have been left long enough for the outside surface to go crispy. once re-chewed they are not unpleasant, and they make the roof of one's mouth go numb - sort of like being on an illegal stimulant, i imagine - and this sensation hangs around for at least an hour, even after eating two bags of crisps.
