Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Herta Red Jak
Posted: 10:21 Wed 27-08-2003. Price: 69p. Location: Portsmouth Tesco. Sub-flavours: just the one - smoked pork salami. Nutritional unusualness: "Made with 138g pork per 100g of finished product as moisture is lost during curing and drying".
"Andrew Cox" reports: This is Herta's response to Pepperami. It's a "smoked pork salami stick" - thicker and shorter than Pepperami, with a taste akin to the Hot variant. There is however one fatal flaw - it has the texture of fibrous marshmallow. The initial shock is very offputting. And it stays that way. I don't imagine this will be around long. Interestingly google searches give no hits at all for this product.

...Mmm, meaty! On the subject of sausages, it appears that the TV-advertised Lea & Perrins Tomato and Worcester Table Sauce is just "the new name for" Lea and Perrins Table Sauce, but has anyone tried the new Hellmann's Snack Sauces (RRP 1.59 for 500g upside-down bottle, in Burger, Saucy Chip Dip, Hot 'n' Spicy Tomato and Curry flavours)? And continuing Red Jak's claim of "138g of pork per 100g of finished product", I recently enjoyed an (imported?) bag of Reinert Snakx ("salami on the go!"), which boasted "Contains no less than 100% meat" on the back (and presumably not more than 100% meat either?)

Comment: These were on special offer in Bethnal Green Tescos for a while last month and I got through quite a few of them. But I have funny taste in sausages - the more artificial the better. Still not as nice as peperami hot though.

Comment: Ya know these sauces have been out for a while. And the McD's sauce is just thousand island dressing. I got some spicy miracle whip sent to me the other day and its super scrummy. Oh how I wish Kraft would bring miracle whip back to the uk.

Comment: I am married to an American and she misses a number of products, but the "Biggie" is Miracle Whip, we did for a few years have a supply from an American base in the UK but the contact has moved back to the States (Boo!)and now I too miss MW (especially the gorgeous Corned Beef Salad my wife makes with it as a constituent)

You may want to try the following link to buy US products online in the UK http://www.skyco.uk.com Unless of course anyone knows where MW can be bought over the counter over here? Sainsbury's used to sell it but have stopped now. Shame.

Oh well shall keep hoping
