Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Nestle Lion Cereal
Posted: 12:33 Thu 04-09-2003. Price: about 2.00/ 375g box. Location: Sainsbury's, London. Nutritional unusualness: "the irresistible taste of chocolate; the sumptuous taste of caramel; new lion cereal, the king of cereals".
Snackspot reports: Photographic evidence at last of this bizarre chocolate bar spinoff, previously spotted by "JT" in, you've guessed it, Asda. To be completely honest, I hadn't even realised they still made the original Lion bar, so seeing it transformed into this "Chocolate and Caramel flavoured Wheat and Corn Cereal" came as something of a shock. Nonetheless, the "great chocolate and caramel taste of Lion bar" does seem to work in cereal form (although the chunks have a slightly odd sugar-glazed appearance to them) - not sure if I'd buy it again, though, as the texture's a bit boring. Couldn't they include some raisins and hazelnuts as well, or am I confusing it with Cadbury's Picnic?

...In other "contents may unsettle during transit": Nestle are also a launching a multigrain rival to Kellogg's Special K called Fitnesse sometime in September (bafflingly, known as "Fitness" on the international stage); Quaker are aiming their three flavours (strawberry, vanilla and toffee) of Oatso Simple Smoothies at younger breakfasters; and Kellogg are adding Honey and Nut and Milk Chocolate Curl Clusters to their ostensibly irresistible Crunchy Nut Cornflakes range.

Comment: Aren't Crunchy Nut Cornflakes "Honey and Nut" to begin with?
Posted: 13:14 Thu 04-09-2003 by Snackspot # permalink comment
Comment: Excellent point Neil - I believe the new ones are technically "Crunchy Nut Clusters (Honey and Nut)". Can't wait to find out if this means that they're ordinary Crunchy Nut cornflakes which just started clumping together in the cornflaking machine...

Comment: Call me old-fashioned, but it stops being a cereal when chocolate is added and becomes a snack.

Choclate cereal, ugh! (shudders)
