Click pic to view comments International sighting: Dove Vanilla and Chocolate Cone
Posted: 17:21 Tue 16-09-2003. Price: 1.50 (Euros). Location: Gran Canaria. Sub-flavours: none. Nutritional unusualness: Topped with smooth DOVE milk chocolate.
"Diarmuid Mallon" reports: Once again gave my partner the slip by offering to buy some cheap fags (that will confuse any American readers). Dove ice cream on a stick was on sale in addition to this "King Cone" variant. The cone is filled with alternating layers of vanilla and chocolate ice cream, with a wafer thin layer of chocolate separating each of these. The overall effect is that of a Vienetta in a cone. The only Dove-like chocolate was a few choc chips on the top. All in all a disappointment with none of the richness I associate with the Dove brand.

...But that's not all - "Diarmuid" also describes himself as "privileged" to witness "the future of ice-cream vending": For 1.50 I ordered a Chocolate Extreme (Nestle). Rather than the machine spitting or sucking a cone at me like UK machines, an arm gently lifted my purchase to a window for me to pick up. No half smashed up cone here, instead the cone comes in a cardboard tube (not unlike a Pringles tube), once opened the cone is inside, along with a serviette for cleaning up afterwards. A real experience. The ice-cream was damned fine too. And equally unillustrated was "N"'s debut UK sighting of Wall's Magnum Uncovered in Asda, Tamworth: Sadly, didn't taste like Magnum chocolate - more like a mix of Galaxy and "chocolate-flavour coating". Hazelnut variety contains chocolate blobs with praline paste within.
