Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Mars Winter Edition White Maltesers
Posted: 12:05 Thu 18-09-2003. Price: 3.99. Location: Sainsburys Southampton. Nutritional unusualness: Uh oh, trans fats ahoy.
"ChoccieMan" reports: Well it doesn't feel like Christmas to me but all the Christmas choccie is appearing in the supermarkets (hence this sudden rash of sightings by me, apologies to the Snackspot staff). Now to me Maltesers were all about honeycomb coz you couldn't really taste the milk chocolate, sadly this is also true of the white ones. So although they do taste different it's only a subtle change (they're just a bit milkier really). A nice product to have for Christmas, but I doubt too many people will be upset if it doesn't stay around after then. What about something a bit more adventurous - eg Caramel? or Mint? ;-)

...No apologies necessary, ChoccieMan (though with all these aliases, it's beginning to sound like a superheroes convention round here). More sightings will follow over the next few days, but in the meantime here's hoping Mars/ Masterfoods will be using the same handy "plastic bucket" form factor for their Hallowe'en cash-in Harry Potter Cauldron (4.99), featuring a chocolate frog, liquourice wand, and two packs of Every Flavour Beans - but perhaps not the Every Flavour Chocolates which were ironically the most edible out of the entire bizarre Harry Potter range.

Comment: As a longtime fan of the Malteaser and someone who always hopes to recieve a white easter egg, this product was a dream come true. And to me, honeycomb always seemed like it'd go best with white chocolate, so i'm surprised they didn't think of this before. Having said that, these are slightly dissapointing. You don't really notice the difference between them and normal Malteasers, at least when you cruch one in it's unaltered state. If you nibble the chocolate off the side, which I sometimes do, only then do you enjoy the benefits of the white chocolate, but doing so kinda beats the point of this product. It should be noted that I was very excited about these, so an anti-climax was inevitable. A casual chocolate lover may enjoy this new product, just don't expect to be blown away.

Comment: Spotted in single packets.

Not the nicest at first, but they grow on you.

Comment: I think this is a nice product. the sweet taste of the white chocolate really goes with the malt centre, as opposed to many other 'white' versions of chocolate snacks where the sweet taste can clash with the filling

Comment: I don't think all these negative comments are fair. They are incredibly yummy and too moreish for my wallet! A friend of mine described them as "White choclatey balls of orgasm." All the people around him, who had tried them agreed wholeheartedly. Take a bucket of these, a bottle of white wine, a roaring fire, and a nice film and you have a perfect evening.
