Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Nestle After Eight Orange Chocolate Thins
Posted: 16:08 Mon 22-09-2003. Price: 2.39. Location: Sainsbury's, Southampton. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
"ChoccieMan" reports: Well these were a surprise. Clearly Nestle have decided the After Eight brand can do anything (white ones, desserts etc.) So here we have orange minty chocolate thins. Surprisingly they taste exactly how you'd expect (unlike so many new products in recent months). Given how moreish ordinary After Eights are if you're even remotely interested in the idea of these you'll probably find yourself eating a whole box before you know it! Definitely recommended.

...And "ChoccieMan" completes his uninterrupted hat trick with this product, backing up the previous unconfirmed sightings from "the mummy of Kaptain Korolev" and "charl". In other colour-changing news, Unilever complemented their current campaign renaming Olivio margarine as Bertolli with a product recall of Bertolli brand 'Pesto Rosso' sauce (due to "contamination with the illegal dye Sudan I"), while Sainsbury's introduce purple carrot is the self-explanatory headline for a recent story revealing that Sainsbury's carrot buyer goes by the name "Russell Crowe", making you wonder how often he is able to use the line, "At my signal, unleash one of nature's richest sources of Vitamin A".

Comment: Blimey, compare and contrast - Bertolli recall press annoucement says "this potential defect solely relates to a minor ingredient (chilli powder) and does not present any immediate health risks to consumers":

vs Food Standards Agency's "Sudan I is not a permitted colour under the Colours in Food Regulations 1995. It is considered to be a genotoxic carcinogen and its presence, at any level is not permitted in foodstuffs for any purpose":

Comment: Not to sound ungrateful, Alex, but does this sound like a discussion of crisps? An incautious reader might jump to the disgusting conclusion that "Honey Roast Ham" After Eights are in the offing...

Comment: Reason for orange after eights? Well in n. america there is a chocolate called ovation which has orange, dark and milk mint. They are little sticks. Though I am thinking I saw the orange after eights a while ago, but did not indulge as I cannot bring myself to buy them unless its xmas time.

Comment: I thought this might be a sneak attack on the can't-believe-they're-still-going-either "Matchmakers" crunchy chocolate sticks - which also offer a choice of mint or orange - but it turns out they're made by Nestle as well.

Comment: Ah, matchmakers haven't had them in a while. Looks like Nestle are relaunching them, perhaps to avoid a conflict of interest? http://www.web-user.co.uk/news/news.php?id=41523

Comment: And it ( http://www.DandW.0catch.com ) seems to share your uncontrollable enthusiasm, bob.

Incidentally, I saw some Nestle After Eight biscuits in Sainsbury's just the other day and wondered how new they were (though I have a definite feeling I've seen them there before...)
