Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Struik Dot Breaks Mini Salami Snacks
Posted: 22:42 Tue 07-10-2003. Price: 99p/ bag of 15. Location: BP Garage, Woodley, Reading. Sub-flavours: Spicy, Mustard or Original. Nutritional unusualness: 40% fat content.
"Diarmuid Mallon" reports: These mini salami snacks have appeared in a number of petrol stations around the Woodley area. They look more like cocktail sausages than salamis, and are rather bland compared to "real" salami or Pepperoni. Each pack has 26g of fat, which can't be too good for you. But unlike "real" salami, no trace of horse in the ingredients!

..."Diarmuid" continues his tour of the fleshpots of the Reading M4 corridor with an appetising sighting of this alternative to Herta Red Jak/ Reinert Snakx (which, to be completely accurate, have been around since about the start of this year, though seem to suffer from slightly erratic distribution). Otherwise, the meatiest stories of the week remain: McDonald's [US] is designing a less fattening Chicken McNugget in a bid to offer healthier food; while, here in the UK, Grampian Country Food Group are launching a range of kids' chicken products endorsed by urbanised carnivore Basil Brush (including "Basil Brush Chicken Boom-Booms"), and have set up the Winkie's World website (requires Flash, sorry) to promote their Wee Willie Winkie children's sausage brand.

Comment: I've now tasted the 'spicy' version, a real disappointment. Just the vaguest of hints of spice and no 'heat' what-so-ever.

They've also do a snack size bag containing 5 mini salamis.

Comment: how about a portable sausage keyring: a nail or ordinary household screw welded to a chain that hangs from the belt, to which the user can fix a chipolata, for emergency snacking?

Comment: Hi from Holland. These have been a fave of mine for as long as I can remember. I first tried the in 2001 I think when they were released here. There are four types in Holland. Red - Spicyl; Blue - Normal; Yellow - Mustard and there is also a green one, but I don't know what flavour that is. Very lekker (Dutch for yummy!)
