Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Noddy Milk
Posted: 11:25 Mon 20-10-2003. Price: about 50p/ pint. Location: Sainsbury's, North London. Nutritional unusualness: Tastes almost identical to the milk of cows.
Snackspot reports: Yes, I too was shocked. But think about it: Noddy is, after all, a mammal, and with the appropriate hormone treatments and/or genetic engineering, there's no reason why he shouldn't lactate "a delicious whole milk for drinks and cereals", to the delight of younger members of the family. And without wanting to sound too much like a Richard Herring routine, if you look at his little face on the side of the bottle, it's almost as if he understands.

...In other dairy-related deviance: this week's The Grocer implies that you may be able to get "creamy-tasting" sheep's milk chocolate Choco-Lina in "specialist shops and delis" here in the UK; New Zealand campaigners Mothers Against Genetic Engineering in Food and the Environment have come under fire for their ad depicting a naked, genetically engineered woman with four breasts being milked by a milking machine; and Silver Spoon have been accused of Udder-Hand Tactics for attempting to carry out last week's product recall of Crusha Milkshake Mix in secret.

Comment: Having purchased Crusha at one point in the past I am of the opinion that being able to tell the difference between normal Crusha and a sample of some "off tasting" sub-standard batch may be beyond most people's abilities.

Possibly science will develop an "electronic tongue" capable of making this distinction one day.

Comment: Hmmmmm... thats odd, the Mothers Against Genetic Engineering webpage seems to be, somehow, *against* genetic engineering - while, at the same time, publishing a poster which clearly *promotes* it.

I for one have always been fairly suspicious of GM foods, but if we can engineer a woman with four breasts then surely any negative effects such as cancer and infertility pale into insignificance.

Comment: With a different Crusha flavour from each nipple!

Comment: Might eliminate their current problems with "slight fizzing on opening, pungent aroma, cloudy appearance or an off flavour": http://www.foodstandards.gov.uk/enforcement/alerts/fhwcrusha131003 36543 5 51
