Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Nestle After Eight biscuits
Posted: 12:37 Thu 23-10-2003. Price: 1.38/ box. Location: Sainsbury's, North London. Nutritional unusualness: Has an unexpectedly disturbing pic of a biscuit being coated in "dark mint chocolate" on the back.
Snackspot reports: Not sure if these are amazingly new, but they do appear to be almost identical to normal (mint flavoured) After Eights, but with a crunchy biscuit instead of the creamy centre. The reference to "dark mint chocolate" implies that all their minty flavour comes from the chocolate itself rather than any fondant filling, though I was unable to completely confirm this as I was eating them in the dark. (In a cinema, since you asked.)

...In other chocolate biscuit/ confectionery crossovers: NiceCupOfTeaEtc's friends at McVities have provided them with samples of the Hobnobs Flapjacks, no doubt months in advance of their actual arrival in the shops; I saw those Lemon and Ginger Digestive and Caramel and Hazelnut HobNobs in a Tesco the other day but couldn't remember if they counted as "new" any more; and the ever-vigilant McSweeney's Reviews of New Food has published heart-rending accounts of Smucker's Twix Flavored Magic Shell ("Would it kill a company to finally make a food that turns into a gas?") and the US Limited Edition White Chocolate Kit Kat, which is likened to "the naughty blonde you meet at the Ritz and wind up making a drunken suicide pact with when her husband Chaz finds out about your affair".

Comment: These have been around for months and months. I'm surprised no-one's noticed the new orange After Eights, though.

Comment: re: "Would it kill a company to finally make a food that turns into a gas?" (above) - alarming story from The Publican.com (my gaff, my rules) about a new way of vaporising alcohol so you can breathe it in. A spokesman from the industry watchdog on sensible drinking said: "The product does not come under our code of practice because it is a gas rather than a liquid":
