Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Rowntrees Fruit Jambos
Posted: 12:35 Mon 27-10-2003. Price: 99p/ 6 packs of 3 biscuits each. Location: Sainsbury's, North London. Sub-flavours: Shortcake biscuits with blackcurrant, strawberry and orange flavour fillings. Nutritional unusualness: Whole egg, Hydrogenated vegetable oil.
Snackspot reports: while NiceCupOfTea are off test-driving their Arnott's Raspberry Shortcake vs Weston's Jam Fancies, Nestle/ Rowntrees have taken the opportunity to launch this ground-breaking biscuit/ jam tart crossover (presumably named after the Swahili word for "hello", rather than Will Mellor's "Hollyoaks" character, but you never know, do you?) You get three shortcake biscuits (with blackcurrant, strawberry and orange jelly-like fillings) in the vividly designed wrapper, each only slightly bigger than a small pile of 2 pound coins - previously described by "Alex" as artificial at first, but nice on your second pack. And considering the size of the "filling" section, this may be one of the jammiest biscuits of all time - leading to the only significant problem: some of the jelly may stick to the inside of the wrapper and so be lost to the consumer who isn't giving the product their complete and undivided attention.

...In other cake/ confectionery conundrums: The Grocer magazine confirmed last week's Nutrageous musings with the news that the Toblerone-stlye Hershey's Kiss Bar is indeed becoming more widely distributed in the UK, while also announcing the New Zealand-only launch of an Almond Biscotti Cadbury White Chocolate Dream.

Comment: These seems a bit like the Arnotts raspberry or blackberry tartlets, which are very nice. http://www.arnotts.com.au/Biscuits/OurBiscuitsS.asp?BID=152

Comment: Found these in Home Bargains at 59p for 6x3 packs (I pity the poor people who don't live near one of these wonders of modern snackdom).

First out of the pack was orange.... and it tasted absolutely nothing like the afore mentioned fruit. Now that isn't always a bad thing (you might as well eat an orange - and *no* one wants that) but in this case it was a major disappointment.

Second flavour was (allegedly) blackcurrant and not any better. Lastly strawberry. By now I had faced up the fact that these were utterly boring which is such a shame. The actual biscuit is really nice - like the bottom of a Toffee Pop (I luuurrvvvveed those as a kid!) but the jammie stuff tastes of noting but sweetness and is a really bizarre texture.

So the best advice I have is to avoid these and stick to the far superior Jammie Dodger
