Click pic to view comments International sighting: Menz CoffeeChocs
Posted: 16:47 Thu 30-10-2003. Price: Not noted. Location: Adelaide, Australia. Sub-flavours: Fruchocs (Apricot), Cherrichocs, White Fruchocs (Apricot wth White Chocolate). Nutritional unusualness: May contain traces of peanuts, almonds and macadamia nuts.
"Adrian" reports: These are fantastic. Milk Chocolate over a fudgey coffee centre. A little chewy which makes them more interesting. I've always been a fan of the original Fruchocs, but these have raised the Menz choc bar. The coffee tastes like real coffee, and the chocolate is the usual Menz quality. If only I could buy them in Melbourne... Emma will have to send more over. More info here.

...Mr Furby cashes in on the debate still raging over the merits of Coffee vs Tea with this latest sighting from Down Under - good to see that Emma's still keeping in touch, too. Anyway, in other international developments: UK-based importers of exotica Cybercandy have just announced their pre-Christmas lineup, featuring the "real" US version of Harry Potter Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans (flavours include Grass, Sardine, Booger, Ear Wax, Vomit and Dirt), plus the rather more palatable sounding Uh Oh Oreos. Not to quibble or anything, but would it have been too much trouble for them to pick up some Nestle Sugar Free Nips Hard Candy while they were there?

Comment: Forgot to mention - I assume "Menz" is the name of the manufacturer, rather than an Aussie way of saying "For blokes", as in the ever-entertaining "Men's Pocky"?:

(fascinatingly, I saw an excellent range of Pockys in the student shop at the University of Westminster Northwick Park campus just the other day, but that's another story...)

Comment: Yes, Menz is the name of the company. Mmm, Men's Pocky. It's called Men's Pocky because the chocolate is dark and a little more bitter than standard Pocky, presumably because Ladies prefer sweeter Milk Chocolate.

Can I nominate Pocky as the best Japanese snack ever?

Comment: What would the Australian alternative be? Pocky for Sheilas?

Comment: "Sheila Pocky" seems about right. And of course for the UK you could have "Fit Bird Pocky", and for the States "Babe Pocky"... And for Lewis Carroll fans "JabberPocky". Oh, lord that's terrible...

Comment: I briefly thought they might be something to do with Merz, hyped as "the British Beck" several years ago only to disappear without a trace.. 38234 6
