Click pic to view comments International sighting: Wrigley's Extra Peach Flavour Sugarfree Chewing Gum
Posted: 17:21 Tue 04-11-2003. Price: $AU0.90. Location: Melbourne, Australia. Nutritional unusualness: Excess consumption may have a laxative effect.
"Adrian" reports: This gum is actually rather good. I think it actually tastes more like apricot than peach, but then again I haven't eaten a peach in quite a while so perhaps I've forgotten what a peach tastes like. Haven't noticed a laxative effect yet either.

..."Adrian" provides gripping photographic evidence for his extraordinary claims of a few weeks ago (when he described this as "a startling taste sensation" - scroll up to read "Kaptain Korolev's" experiences with the small green granules that add to the all-round experience of new Wrigley's Professional, which "JT" maintains replaces sweet mint - just as "Cherry Airwaves replaces Spicy Cocktail"). Anyway, the new issue of FoodlineWeb Newsletter has info on Japan's tooth-friendly Snoopy to Issho Candy/ Snoopy to Issho Gummy (with applephenon and sanphenon "polyphenols that prevent dental caries"), plus the USA's SkinCola, said to be "good for your skin" (rather than being made from it).

Comment: Is JT sure that Cherry Airwaves replace Spicey Cocktail? I've seen both on sale at my local shop.

A bit more on the cherry taste. It follows the trend of being very very strong at first, but'calming down'. I still think Spicy Cocktail is the best as these tasted like chewy Cherry Tunes

Comment: The Kaptain once investigated the claim of the laxative effect. Three packages of gum were purchased, the entire contents of each package were placed in the Kaptain's mouth and chewed enthusiastically until the flavour was gone. The Kaptain waited, nothing happened, for a while, then the Kaptain began to cut loose a series of super wet farts. Thankfully though, the expected poo torrent from the Kaptain's anus did not occur.

The Kaptain therefore advises against the excessive consumption of gum before participating in important social gatherings or when the consumer will be situated in a confined space for long periods of time.

Comment: I think the reason gum causes a laxative effect because when you chew something without swallowing it your body produces excess stomach acid

Comment: After Googling I found that it's because the product has Sorbitol in it, which is an example of a sugar-replacement substance called polyols. Other known names are: isomalt, lactitol, maltitol, mannitol and xylitol. So it's not just gum - any food that uses those polyols should have the warning abt the laxative effect. Comment: eating gun can make you poo a lot? that's good news for me cause i've been in a state of constipation...and my friend said that we can slim down our face by chewing gum so i'm curently consuming 3-4 packets a day..and still constipated...

Comment: I think it might cause constipation if you sit on it, mimi. You can blow some great bubbles that way, though....

Comment: I think I'm probably addicted to gum now and I don't think it's a bad thing. Personally I like the fact that it's a laxative cos i dislike the feeling of a full stomach. On top of that it also helps prevent bad breadth so it can't be bad. Anyway it helps me observe my rule of eating very little and chewing alot.A few times I've actually chew gums throughout the day without food!

Comment: Hmm, would like to try peach also, but is it just me or does anyone else think that eating anything peach like sweets or gum, reminds them of toilet airfreshener
