Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Lindt Christmas Chocolate
Posted: 14:46 Fri 14-11-2003. Price: £1.32. Location: Fisher's Supermarket, Gerrards Cross, Bucks. Sub-flavours: Also came as Lindor-like balls. Nutritional unusualness: Coriander.
"Flameproof" reports: Sorry about the poor quality pic - I've only got a camera-phone... I found this in a local supermarket that's stocked by the Nisa chain, so it might be available elsewhere. I was a bit dubious of the filling, which is listed as "smooth hazelnut and a hint of cinnamon and coriander" (especially since I'm not a great fan of cinnamon) but I bought it purely out of journalistic obligation. I'm pleased to report that the "hint" flavours were just that, and I thought the taste very pleasant.

...Apology accepted, "Flameproof" - and well done for confessing that you're not a big fan of cinnamon in chocolate products, but have no such objections to a "hint" of coriander or two. Personally, I'm hoping this is just the first of this year's crazy seasonal tie-ins: FoodlineWeb is promising "Christmas pudding flavoured" Rudolph's Organic low fat yoghurt, plus New Covent Garden's Smoked Salmon and Champagne Soup; I've already seen Tropicana Festive Blend and McVitie's Jamaica Ginger Cake Christmas Swing Twin Pack; but will Sainsbury's be doing special "spicy" versions of their bin bags and toilet cleaners, as they have in previous years?

Comment: The seasonal onslaught continues - Independent Retail News reports: http://www.irn-talkingshop.co.uk/irn/news.html#hotprod

* Ginsters has launched a Christmas Special Sandwich filled with turkey, pork sausage and bacon with sage and onion stuffing

* KP's nuts sharing packs range has been expanded to include Vanilla Frosted peanuts (320g retailing at £2.99), Cracked Black Pepper flavoured peanuts (620g retailing at £2.65) and a Raisin & Choc Chip Mix (700g retailing at £2.65)

* Options, the hot chocolate drink, has extended its limited editions range into jars and plans to rotate the variants on a regular basis. The first new flavour is Bonoffee, inspired by Bannoffee banana an cream pie, with Spiced Ginger due for a New Year release

* The success of Lemsip Max Cold & Flu Direct Lemon has prompted the launch of a Blackcurrant variant. The microgranule formulation means that you donít have to take it with water - the powder can be sprinkled on the tongue and gives a sherbet-like sensation

- not particularly Christmassy that last one, but hey - sherbert-like Lemsip Max Cold & Flu...!

Comment: Walkers are doing some ready-salted doritos that are shaped like christmas trees. I think they did these last year too.

Comment: well considering that beer nuts or candied nuts always have vanilla in the flavouring. It does make sense that they have made vanilla coated peanuts.
