Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Emmi Aloe Vera Sensitive Yogurt Drink
Posted: 17:23 Tue 02-12-2003. Price: 99p/ 250ml bottle. Location: Sainsbury's, Bath. Sub-flavours: Also a yoghurt, apparently. Nutritional unusualness: It's got [freaking] Aloe Vera in it, for Christ's sake.
"Stuart Campbell" reports: What? For years Aloe Vera was only found in moisturisers and suchlike, then suddenly it was in washing powder and washing-up liquid, and now it's a snack treat too? On picking this up I wasn't sure whether to drink it or rub it on my skin, and having drunk it I wish I'd rubbed it on my skin. Opening the lid, even after a vigorous shake, revealed an unsettling rubbery skin, and after gingerly poking through it and taking a swig, a goopy substance tasting - oddly enough - not unlike moisturiser mixed with washing-up liquid was revealed. The only food-like sensation came from the lemon juice (clearly trace elements, as no percentage is listed, unlike the 77% low-fat yogurt and 10% Aloe Vera). "Natural Beauty From Within"? Not from within this, pal.

...Must be something to do with the imminent Christmas party season, as recent issues of The Grocer magazine have been bubbling over with functional products aiming for greater availability in the UK, including: the heavily promoted to students "hangover prevention" takeBuzz; Swedish "hangover recovery product" Feelfine; plus Bomba Energy drink, tastefully packaged - considering the current world situation and all - in the form of a hand grenade (site contains Flash, mild nudity).

Comment: "Based on a formula developed by Swedish scientists to assist recovering alcoholics" - there's a slogan we won't be seeing on the sides of buses anytime soon...

Comment: Tried an Emmi Aloe Vera Sensitive Yoghurt yesterday. Very good!! Tasted similar to a peach yoghurt. Found them in a garage shop and would love to see them in larger supermarkets.

Comment: This drink is good for digestion and refreshingly tastely. It is similar to the Aloe Vera Yogurt drink selling in Japan and Korea. I wish that it can easily be bought everywhere in UK.
