Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Space Raiders Spicy Flavour
Posted: 13:19 Thu 04-12-2003. Price: 10p/ packet. Location: Newsagents kiosk in anonymous mall, Birmingham. Sub-flavours: Also available in salt and vinegar, pickled onion and beef. And possibly tomato. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
"Stuart Campbell" reports: I heard about these a few weeks ago, but hunted high and low for them fruitlessly in the Bath/ Bristol area, and working my way alphabetically through a UK atlas, finally found a stockist in the nation's second city. They're pretty nice, with the "spicy" flavour in this case falling somewhere between the interpretations found in Golden Wonder's Nik-Naks and Tayto's legendary Bikers, except a little more peppery than either. As with all Space Raiders they're a little on the cardboardy side, though, and they're really only an acceptable alternative if you can't find either of the other two, or you've only got 10p on you.

...In other crispy creations: "Adrian" reported himself "particularly drawn" to Tim's Alder Smoked BBQ, and Tim's Parmesan and Garlic, available via America's Snack Store; while a recent Independent Retail News predicts a 10m relaunch for Walkers in "the first 12 weeks of 2004", including "New flavour" Cheese and Onion and Beef and Onion crisps plus a new 24-pack of "meaty" flavours.

Comment: I've been eating these for weeks now and they're gorgeous.

As they're only 10p buy around 5 packs and eat them in one go to experiance the flavour :)

If you're having trouble getting hold of them then your best bets a corner shop run by an Asian family, there's one next to where I work and they stock the best selection of obscure snacks in the world.

Comment: 24 meaty flavours! That's a lot. To make up the numbers Walkers will hopefully have to explore the hitherto unmined worlds of game, offal and bushmeat for their new flavours.

Comment: Long pig is such and excellent term. I've been wanting to slip it into a conversation for ages but the opportunity hasn't presented itself.

Comment: Are you sure it isn't something like 6 packs of 4 varieties?

The Walkers I mean

Comment: yes of course it isn't 24 *different* meaty flavours - unless they're planning to explore the horse (or donkey) chorizo options: http://www.snackspot.org.uk/thread.php?story=0401051257fah#upcoming

Comment: I think the "new" Cheese and Onion is significant as it means Walkers can now put the "suitable for vegetarians" line on this variety (animal rennet in the cheese meant the old Cheese and Onion didn't qualify, methinks)

Comment: Hello, my names dodsy (mikey from recess to my friends), i love space raiders and i think they should be made a national treasure, also at 10p a packet they're a rip off, i only get my child benefit to live off, and half of that gets spent in Ku club on a saturday night. Also i would like to see more flavours introduced as 2 is just NOT ENOUGH !!!!. i would also like to see a deit packet asweell for the plump customer of today. (richard dodsworth bares no likeness what so ever to "comic book guy" in the simpsons)

Comment: Sorry, 2 flavours?

Salt And Vinegar, Spicy, Beef, Pickled Onion, Tomato and I think perhaps Cheesy is more than 2.

Comment: when we are all old and grey we can all remember monster munch and how good it was to be able to buy lots of packs when you got your pocket money. i only got a little bit of pocket money but it always felt like i had loads for that 10 minutes when i had a carrier bag full of these wonderful snacks. cheese was always my favorite eaten at the same time as pickled onion ones. i agree with Fail Fish on this one. Grrrrrrrrrrr to anyone who hates them!!

It's a sci-fi theme bar and they do all the flavours.. plus, when is the last time you got to pay 10p for crisps in a pub?! The other great place is my local Spar... they do multipacks (alas, only in pickled onion) of 10 for 69p!!!!

Comment: I love space raiders so much, but sometimes feel uncomfortable buying a selection of up to twenty packs to consume in one cannabis induced crunch-fest.

How can i overcome this, can anyone recommend a wholesaler of sorts (failing that a backstreet handover)

And also exactly how many flavours are we sure exist?

Thankyou for letting me ask my pathetic questions.

Posted: 18:33 Wed 18-Jan-2006 by "clerk" # permalink comment
Comment: Flavours are: Beef, Salt and Vinegar, Pickled Onion, and Spicy.

Most wholesalers should have them - makro certainly does.

Comment: we british are so good at snacking we know what we like the taste of and were too damn lazy to make anything that requires more than 5 minutes prep, it's wonderful, snacksters abound, bring me something that will make my tastebuds dance and sing, bring me something that will taste better than anything that was cooked and bring me something that has a dispicable nutritional value, for that is what we wish for , so bring it for us....

Comment: hi my names fernand, im also a lover of the raiders of space, i would just like to make a point about the flavours, you say there are the flavours salt and vinegar, spicy, pickled onion, beef. Recently my local corner shop "motalas" has started distributing prawn cocktail flavour space raiders.....although i had never heard of these, i am now a lover of this flavour. ive never really been a prawn cocktail man myself, but the space raiders prawn cocktail is just superb, and i cannot resist.
