Snackspot reports: An amazingly opinionated response to our Easter vs Christmas debate, with Easter currently edging just ahead in the seasonal chocolate-eating stakes (ah, the grass always looks greener on the other side...), and the most radical suggestion being to boycott both. But with sad news like Man behind Chupa Chup lolly dies, and "JT"/ "Bob" soundalike "MR 2004" posting his (her?) look ahead to 2004, I'm once again going to take the advice of the "Kaptain" and suggest we take this opportunity to remember some of the brands that didn't make it this year.

...Whether it's relaunches like Payne's Poppets or Freekee Soda, limited editions like Vanilla Monster Munch or the Magnum Seven Deadly Sins (yes, the light that burns twice as bright - burns half as long), let's pour a "forty" of Holsten Fusion on the kerb to mark the passing of any of your favourites - and maybe run an informal Dead Pool on ones we think might not make it to 2005?

Comment: I think White Malteasers will be gone by this time next year. I don't know anyone who doesn't find them too sickly.

Kellogg's Frosties Turbos
Listerine Actives

Fanta Zesty Berry
Penguin Splatz

Comment: I wouldn't say Tango Strange Soda is a relaunch of Freekee, merely a name change.

I think Pot Noodle Sizzlers are , and will be, still going, and Liquorice Skittles are a fixture in Italy.

Mike Gray- White Maltesers are being premanently sold next year.

I can't see Fanta Zesty Berry going. Sorry! I think Tropical Starburst, Wild Berry or Mint Skittles and Cadbury's Snack and Smash will desert us soon.

I'll most miss Liquorice Skittles. If anyone knows where you can buy them, please tell me! I had no luck at Poundland. How about a look ahead to the year Snackspot with info from a reliable source

Comment: I know they're being permanently sold next year. I just don't think they'll make it long-term. :p

Comment: Also missed- Cheese and Chive Walkers Sausage And Tomato Golden Wonder's.

Missed, but from a few years back- Chocolate Pretzels. Summer Fruit Skittles.

Comment: Golden Wonder Sausage & Tomato haven't gone anywhere. I bought a dozen bags in a newsagent's about a week ago, and they were in the new GW livery, so they wouldn't appear to be a casualty of the recent flavour cull.

Comment: McDonald's Berry and Yoghurt Crunch is a little like Berrynice Yoghurt Crunch which is a permanent feature of McDonald's Australia's saladplus menu. The HTML site isn't updated yet but the flash site shows it - it's in What's New: http://www.mcdonalds.com.au

Comment: Powerade Reloaded has been already been rebranded as Powerade Amazon Force. Because it's green like trees in the Amazon, probably.

Comment: Oh, and Harry Potter Dragon Eggs are back in stock. However they have been usurped in my Favourite Creme Egg But Not range by the Nestle Double Creme Egg, which is as close to Chocolate Egg Perfection as you're ever going to get.

Comment: my favourite cease and desist has to be cadbury's jestives biscuits. and my dream 2004 product is a uk launch of diet cherry coke /blah blah again/. and can i have the pope in the snackspot human dead poll? and while i'm drunk, how the hell are you guys inserting line feeds into here?

Comment: Well, anything themed or based on a film/book/TV programme/Victorian explorer was simply not made to last, though the Harry Potter dragon's egg jelly thing (complete with foetus) was paticulary foul-tasting.

My choice would be Snack-a-jack Spudz, they're very nice, but still prefer crisps. Also seem to be disappearing from the shops around here (though haven't been searching that hard, truth be told).

Comment: I know I'm stating the obvious, but Twix Tops live on as bisc&, so I wouldn't say they were really gone, just assuming a new identity... Has anyone noticed those Altu bars yet? That seems to be one that died before it started, unless I'm shopping at the wrong travel-sized WH Smiths...

Comment: I've tried the bisc& range and if you like stale snacks, you'll love these. Sooner they go, the better.

Comment: However, I'm yet to see Jila Mints or Virgin Sours.

I've seen the Jila Mints price tag on the shelf, so they were sold out.

Comment: Oh right, well i've never seen Fanta Summer Fruits on sale before, and actually Fanta Zesty Berry wasn't the nicest soft drink, too strong tasting, I did definately like Fanta Apple Splash though, is that still available? I also like Oasis still drinks alot which are made by Coca-Cola i think

Comment: Pissing Fanta Zesty Berry. I hate it so much. I tried it once a long, long time ago and I can still vividly remember how much I hated it. I find it hard to describe the hatred I felt for it after it's assault on my tounge.

I'm not usually one to dwell on a drink that tastes bad, but Zesty Berry is outrageous.

Comment: It wasn't that good i agree, but i just liked the fact that they had finally brought out a Blue Fanta variety!

Comment: Fanta do a sugar free apple flavour now, maybe that replaced apple splash.
