Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Bernard Matthews Chargrilled Chicken Slice
Posted: 20:00 Wed 21-01-2004. Price: 99p reduced to 89p. Location: Sainsbury's, London NW3. Sub-flavours: With cheese and leek sauce (sampled); Ham and Cheese slice; something involving spicy Mediterranean vegetables?. Nutritional unusualness: "Although great care has been taken to remove all bones, some may still remain".
Snackspot reports: With a "4 week TV campaign" currently threatened for Squire Matthews' Microwaveable Nugget Hot Pops (or whatever they're called), imagine my surprise at discovering this entire range of Ginsters-style slices and pasties lurking in the lower reaches of the chiller cabinet. The snappily titled Chargrilled Chicken (with cheese and leek sauce) Slice seemed to be the only one you could eat hot or cold (and consequently the only one you could microwave) - verdict: Exactly like a cold slice of last night's pizza. Would *definitely* buy again.

...In other carnivorous capers: here's the link just in case you missed the recent story 'You are too fat to have a Whopper', [US] Burger King customers told; while The Grocer recently warned of two new additions to the Mr Greedy Mini Hot Dogs range - "Mini Hot Dogs in Ketchup" and "Mini Hot Dogs in Gravy", reminding me that every time I hear that new McDonald's "Mr Men" TV ad, the last line of the section "blah blah blah/ Mr Men and Little Miss/ Hello Mr Happy/ Know where Mr Bump is?" always sounds like they're singing "Nowhere Mr Bum Piss". Oh alright, just me then?

Comment: Ye Olde Oak Mr Greedy Mini Hot Dogs were previously criticised in July 2002 for containing "40 per cent mechanically separated turkey, and 39 per cent pork": http://www.which.net/media/pr/jul02/general/misleadinglabels.html

Comment: A big step up from those potato-bulked-up slices from your corner shop. Shaped like a cornish pasty, but 'open' with the filling sitting in the middle of the slice like a welsh rarebit. The pastry is nice and flakey, and the filling rich and full of flavour. Well worth checking out. 75338 2
