Click pic to view comments Confirmed sighting: Atkins Morning Shine bars/ Carbolite breakfast bars
Posted: 12:28 Tue 27-01-2004. Price: 4.99/ 4.49 pack of 5. Location: Boots, Holland and Barrett, Superdrug. Sub-flavours: Choc chip, Strawberry, Apple/ Blueberry, Strawberry, Cinnamon. Nutritional unusualness: Soya nuggets, Splenda.
"charl" reports: Much awaited low-carb convenience foods are finally here. The Atkins bars have a good crisp texture and were highly regarded among my non lowcarb-buddies (particularly the choc chip flavour). The Carbolite bars are more squishy, very fruity and how I imagine Kellogg's Nutrigrain to be (having never tried one).

...Cheers for that "charl" - hope it doesn't start a craze of people comparing products to what they imagine "ones they've never tried" are like! In other functional tomfoolery: the latest The Grocer has an ad for what claims to be a "new" cherry flavour of Fisherman's Friends; I saw a bag of Lockets Caring Clowns in Poundland the other day (but didn't have any money); and the same article inadvertently reveals that the makers of Positively Healthy Cocoa Drink (renamed "Cocoa Shot" after newspaper controversy over the "Positively Healthy" claim) were nothing but a "front" for Mars/ Masterfoods after all.

Comment: Nearly a fiver for five cereal...breakfast bars?!?? Looks like Atkins has researched his market niche well and plans to plunder it as deeply as possible. Certainly a product for people with more money than sense.

Comment: Good point Peter - I myself would be tempted to "cut down on carbs" (and save myself a fiver) by, I dunno, NOT EATING ANY CEREAL BARS

Comment: yeah yeah, very good chaps. i think the points here are: 1. small target market at present. 2. by eating non processed foods on the whole my weekly shopping bill is probably less than most people who eat convenience foods, ergo i can afford not only to set fire to paper cash but to buy these too.

Comment: Well Charl if you've got so much left-over cash I'm sure Snackspot wouldn't mind having it to help pay for the upkeep of the site. I'm sure an address can be provided in order for you to send the money. ^_^

Comment: Gah, put your money (well, charl's) away Peter - your perky comments are more than enough payment for me

Comment: Lol fair enough Charl. :) Anyway, I would of thought that by buying t-shirts would of been enough to garner at least a mention on NTK, I would think of complaining if I was you. ;)

Aw thanks SS, you're the best! :D 73278 0
