Click pic to view comments International sighting: Guinness Milk Chocolate Truffle
Posted: 17:28 Thu 29-01-2004. Location: Dublin, Ireland. Sub-flavours: Dark chocolate, milk chocolate truffle, toffees, fudge. Nutritional unusualness: Guinness 0.1-1%, floral hops.
"charl" reports: These sweets picked up from St. James' Gate promised they were "Enhanced with the flavour of Guinness". Having tried the fudge, I can only assume they mistyped "Bitrex" as "Guinness". A very petrol station vanilla fudge finishes with a vile aftertaste. Nice work, brewers.

...Crikey, I've always maintained that more pubs should serve lager chocolate, I mean (for dunking purposes?), but this sounds like madness itself! In other chocolate concoctions: The Grocer believes Nestle to be "roaring ahead" with a "new improved" version of Lion Bar, featuring "tastier caramel and cereal"; while GlaxoSmithKline are targeting the younger insomniac with their chocolate, banana and strawberry flavoured Horlicks variant (from 99p for 3 20g sachets), rejoicing in the child-sedating brand name of Snoozoo.

Comment: Did you mean to say "more pubs should serve lager"?

Comment: Yes, and I stand by that comment Neil - though I also think that more of them should serve chocolate, as well.

Comment: Why not combine both and have pubs serve chocolate-flavoured lager? There, the best of both worlds.

Comment: I had one of these on the Dublin-Holyhead ferry in early 2003. It tastes disgusting, and can surely only be marketed at the Guinness-tourism trade. Can't remember how much it cost, may have been around 1.50.

Comment: I have just consumed a "New Improved Taste" Lion Bar, although I can't submit it as a sighting because my scanner is broken. Damn! Anyhow, I can confirm that... well, it tastes like the old Lion Bar, to be honest. A bit more caramel, and some really bright white wafer in the middle.
