Click pic to view comments International sighting: Ritter Sport Tiramisu Chocolate
Posted: 13:17 Thu 19-02-2004. Price: 69 eurocent (48p). Location: Darmstadt, Germany. Nutritional unusualness: Macarpone and almond amaretto flavourings.
"Chris" reports: A surprisingly accurate reworking of the classic pudding in (milk and white) chocolate-bar form. Weakest aspect is the crispy rice substitution for the cake bits. Otherwise outstanding.

...You know, I still think that a reworked version of Buddy Holly's "Peggy Sue" would make an excellent anthem for the UK's Tiramisu Marketing Board ("If you knew Tiramisu/ It's coffee flavoured, yes that's true/ Tira- oh, Tira-misu" etc). Still, those pesky foreigners have clearly been busy, as "Tom Anderson" writes: There's a story in today's [free London newspaper] Metro (page 6) about future KitKat flavours. There's already a lemon cheesecake flavour in Germany and Japan, and it may be coming to the UK, but the headline flavour is "cumin and masala", ie curry. Nestle is also considering liquorice, saffron and passion fruit. We covered the caramel and banana Kit Kats of the world early last year, though NiceCupOfTeaEtc are currently leading with traditional Viscount-alike Arnott's Mint Slice, perhaps for the best considering the criticism the makers have had for their Tia Maria flavoured Tim Tams.

Comment: Did anyone see the trailers for the ITV news last night? It was trailed twice, both times only mentioning the "Kit Kat in CRISIS!" story that Nestle has seen sales PLUMMET (by five percent) due to poor advertising. The new flavour KK possibilites were mentioned on the show, in what must be an all-time low for TV news reporting.

"Is the nation falling out of love with Kit Kat?" asked Trevor really seriously, standing in his pretend virtual reality studio, like he was reading proper, grown-up news of great import and not just something about Kit Kats.

Comment: Doh sorry I missed that - here at Snackspot HQ I try to monitor all media outlets (like "Brains" in Thunderbirds), but maybe there was something else on the other side.

Comment: Trevor MacDonald just gave the story the weight it deserved. After I read about the new flavour Kit Kats in the paper this morning I phoned round all my friends in excitement, only to be told that yes they'd read the news too, isn't it exciting? It was like 9/11 all over again.

Comment: Was it the lead story? "100s dead in somewhat suspicious-sounding Iranian rail disaster - but first, some startling new developments in the world of Kit Kats..."

Comment: I heard it mentioned on 'Today with Des and Mel', with Jo Brand replacing Melanie Sykes for today.

Comment: I'm informed it even made it to that most esteemed of news outlets "Metro" which my girlfriend picked up on the bus.

She also mentioned having sighted After Eight mini eggs, but as she's on a diet she didn't pick any up, which was somewhat inconsiderate...

Comment: Yes, I was watching Footballers Wives. My excuse being that I need to stay in touch with what "the common people" are watching on TV.

Comment: The claim by Rowntrees that Kit-Kat is still the best selling chocolate bar, if you include Orange Kit-Kats, chunky and kit-kat bites is really weedy. Yes, and Bounty is the best selling chocolate bar if you include our rebranded 'Bounty Twix' and 'Bounty Snickers'

I'd prefer the caramel one, but it beats me why they don't imitate Reece's Stix and do one with peanut butter.
