Click pic to view comments International sighting: Pringles Original Light
Posted: 12:06 Wed 10-03-2004. Price: 1.70. Location: Some supermarket in the Netherlands. Nutritional unusualness: 33% Less Fat (than Regular Pringles).
"Marc" reports: The American "Pringles Reduced Fat" Pringles have made it across the Atlantic. Now the Belgiums are producing a Light version of our beloved dehydrated potato snack. Now I can eat three cans of Pringles instead of 2, and get just as fat! Let's see if P&G will also introduce those US "Fat Free Pringles" (made with Olean - Google for olean leakage). Hmmm... maybe better not!

...To be completely honest, I'm not sure if these have ever been sold in the UK, though I thought better of arguing with possibly the foremost Pringles flavours expert in the world (and also just liked the idea of referring to Belgians as "Belgiums"?). Anyway, "Marc", you might also like to know that Pringles Dippers are also on sale here in "Pinch of Pepper" flavour, and that any leftover Salsa Heaven dip can make a surprisingly palatable pasta sauce. "Adrian" meanwhile suggested we should send someone "to Twickenham and try and grab a couple of bags" of Wallaby and Stuffing flavoured McCoy's, and I'm fairly certain that tonight's Money Programme about crisps *is* the one the nice man from the BBC emailed about, but I don't think any Snackspotters appear in it (perhaps we came across as too fanatical - or perhaps not fanatical enough?)

Comment: Oh and there's an official McCoy's "Wallaby Stuffing" web game:

http://wallaby.mccoys.co.uk/ (needs Flash, sorry)

- but it's frankly appalling, despite currently being number 6 in FHM's 100 Greatest Web Games Ever: http://www.fhm.com/site/games/main.asp

Comment: i can confirm that the fat free pringles do have the advertised effect. the taste is surprisingly good for fat free, but i would like to meet the person that can finish more than a third of a tube without severe gastro-intestinal effects.

Comment: always surprised they never advertised it (aka "fecal urgency", according to one of the sites in that search) as just another weight-losing bonus

Comment: I'm still haunted to this day by a very bad experience with Olestra/Olean...

All I'll say is don't eat a family-sized bag of Doritos "WOW" chips before boarding a trans-atlantic flight.

Comment: back to The Money Programme - just in case you missd it, there was a quick shot of "Hazel Blackman", whose husband had banned Stinky Nik Naks from the house: http://www.snackspot.org.uk/thread.php?story=0304251623cas#20030729165300

Comment: I'm sure you can get these here.

Also, what has happened to the 'World Tour'? Are they taking a permanent siesta in Spain?

Comment: These fat reduced Pringles have been available in Sweden for surely a year and a half, hardly news here in Europe... - Pringles Dippers are also available since two weeks ago over here...

Comment: Dippers and Dips have surfaced here, too.

Odd since the dutch Pringles site promotes 'Orange(coloured) Cheese' and 'Light', but not the Dippers.

These Cheese and Light flavors are very hard to find, while the Dippers are 0.99 instead of 1.69 this week. 44963 2
