Click pic to view comments International sighting: Diet Coke with Lime
Posted: 17:14 Wed 17-03-2004. Price: US$1.09. Location: 7-Eleven in Addison, Texas (suburb of Dallas). Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
"Laura Wood" reports: I grabbed one of these at 7-Eleven last night needing to perk up before going dancing with some friends, then left it in the cupholder of my car overnight as if receiving the subconscious message, "Snackspot needs to see this!" Frustratingly, Diet Coke with Lime seems to have replaced Diet Coke with Lemon, which I really liked. The Lime flavor is not very "refreshing"; more like slightly bitter, and seems to disappear into the usual Diet Coke taste after the first few swigs. The drink as a whole is extremely overcarbonated and aspartame-tasting, like all Diet Cokes, though it is an efficient vehicle for caffeine delivery. However, I still prefer Diet Coke with Lime (or Lemon) to plain Diet Coke, or to squeezing lemons/limes into Diet Coke myself (laziness...)

...Despite earlier controversy, still no clear evidence that this is coming to the UK as yet, forcing the likes of "Alex" to make do with Asda Diet Cola With Lemon And Lime Flavour (just 44p for a 2 litre bottle), which he describes as: A fair and lovely mix of both lemon and lime, which really works, meaning there is no hint of one or the other, on a smooth cola taste. Meanwhile, as The New Yorker muses, who knows what the US market will come up with next?

Comment: If it doesn't have a hint of one or the other, then surely it's a failure and just tastes like Diet Cola?

Comment: Yes, I have returned... (got married). Though I have not had the pleasure of trying this yet. I did buy some Diet Coke with lemon the other day so it is still out there.

Comment: I've tried diet coke with lime (its readily available in the US), and don't get your hopes up. In a word, it is vile. It does not tase like it has an accent of lime, it tases like diet coke with citrus scented industrial cleaner.

Comment: Diet Coke with rum flavours, diet coke with rum flavours.

The Kaptain demands it, it tastes good and is an easily prepared faux alcoholio beverage. All the master of the beverage requires is a bottle of Coke fluids and a tiny vial of the rum flavours. The Kaptain suggests that others try a little of the rum coke. Impress your employer by drinking it at work and offering a tempting sip...

Comment: It gets very hot here, Ive gotten used mixing dilute coolaid by the gallon. Sometimes water and soda pop don't satisfy. When it's especially hot I like to have dinner by laying out a number of no fuss foods--sandwiches, interesting cheeses & crackers, unusual fruits and the like. I've never been one to eat much in hot weather.

You people are crazy.

Comment: good example there of why, if you're posting something vaguely geographically specific, it might be a good idea to give some indication *of where you actually are* (a ceramics factory? the South of France? the planet Mercury?)

anyway, the Cybercandy London shop does have Diet Coke with Lime now (plus root beer and other stuff) for £1.37 a can - still theoretically a bargain compared to the price of transatlantic flights nowadays

Posted: 16:09 Mon 22-03-2004 by "Saramond" # permalink comment
Comment: A bargain??

You can probably get the same effect by squeezing some jif lime into a can of diet coke, if diet coke with lemon is anything to go by!

Comment: "Frustratingly, Diet Coke with Lime seems to have replaced Diet Coke with Lemon, which I really liked. "

Taken from the official Diet Coke-site: --------------------------------------- 4. Is Diet Coke with Lime replacing Diet Coke with Lemon?

No. The two flavors complement each other, yet satisfy different tastes, and offer more variety to our Diet Coke drinkers.

Because of the positive response to the light, natural citrus flavor of Diet Coke with Lime, the same flavor approach has been followed to give Diet Coke with Lemon a lemon taste that is lighter than the original.

Comment: yeah, but realistically shops only have so much shelf-space, and if "DC with Lemon" hasn't been very popular and "DC with Lime" is getting a big advertising push, it's not really a difficult decision

(Of course what Coke really wants is for stockists to ditch one of their rival brands, which is why I reckon Walkers keep coming up with all those new flavours here in the UK)

Comment: ...as we saw on the Money Programme Snackspot, there isn't much shelfspace left for anyone *other* than Walkers these days! What did you think to the DC with Lime then?
Posted: 13:06 Fri 26-03-2004 by Snackspot # permalink comment
Comment: it's alright (but not really worth 1.37 a can) - it's like they've listened to the DC with lemon feedback and made the citrus flavour much milder, so you kind of forget it's there then occasionally there's a hint and you think "hmm, is someone cooking limes somewhere?"
Posted: 18:39 Fri 26-03-2004 by Snackspot # permalink comment
Comment: actually the best thing about it is the nutritional info, which reveals that a serving size of 1 can contains... no nutritional value whatsoever (O Calories, 0g Fat, 0g Total Fat, 0g Protein) - except for a delicious 40mg (2% recommended daily intake) of Sodium. Yummy!

Comment: Tried Diet coke with lime today available from the cybercandy store in Covent Garden-what an anticlimax...its just diet coke with a slight hint of citrus..just diet coke with lemon but less acid..not impressed!just put some lime in urself instead of paying 1.37!

Comment: Yep, it is a disappointment. If you mix 2 parts 7 UP to one part Diet Coke, you'll probably get a fair approximation of the wishy-washiness of the lime taste. Not that I've tried that yet...

Shame if it ends up replacing DC with Lemon in the States; hopefully Lime's sales will reflect its mediocrity and they'll have to bring Lemon back!

Comment: Whilst in NY I had time to sample the Coke with Lime, US Coke with Vanilla and the Pepsi with Vanilla. The lime is much better than the lemon, and is far more 'natural' tasting. I preferred the Pepsi with Vanilla, but both were much smoother than the UK Vanilla Coke.

Comment: I live in Canada and I know we have the same Vanilla Coke as in the U.S. Is it really different in the U.K.? If so, why? Also, I've been drinking Diet Coke with lime for quite some time over here and I must say its 100% better then the un-drinkable Diet Coke with lemon

Comment: Coke vary their recipe to reflect local tastes (they even boasted this on the ill-fated Dasani brand). I can still remember tasting Coke on a childhood holiday in Holland. The sugar rush was amazing - as our dutch friends can't seem to get enough of those carbs.

Comment: Coca Cola from Mexico is the best. Diet Coke with lime has just been released here in Australia and I have to say that it is not selling to well. They are advertising it alot though. I have tried it and it has a slight taste of Diet Coke with Lemon. I am not keen on either and will just keep to my favorite Diet Coke with Vanilla. Does anyone remember Tab Clear in Britain around in the early 90s? that gave you a serious sugar high too.

Small note on the Cherry coke in Ireland, I live in Northern Ireland and I spotted some last weekend in Woolworths, not sure if you guys in the south have woolies but there you go. I was sorely tempted to buy some but alas they don't do it in diet and I ain't allowed to drink the sugary stuff
