Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Bounty Mango Ice Cream Confirmed sighting: Bounty Mango Ice Cream
Posted: 11:18 Wed 21-04-2004. Price: £2.79, 500ml tub, BOGOF. Location: Sainsburys, Norwich. Nutritional unusualness: Coconut ice cream, mango sauce.
"Matthew" reports: I'm not completely sure if these are the supposed "Bounty Mango ice creams", but heck, it'll do. And the tub says new on it, so... Anyway! This entry into the premium ice cream products market is much better than I'd hoped. Mango sauce tastes much like the outside of a Solero, while the coconut taste of the ice cream is quite subtle and works well with the sauce. Not overly bitty, and not just standard vanilla with the odd bit of coconut either. All we need now is a hand-held version, and the frozen impulse purchase world is theirs.

...As if in answer to "Matthew's" suggestion, who should chip in but "liz", who didn't provide a picture but did provide this tantalising account of (presumably hand-held) Bounty Tropical Ice Creams (£1.99 for a pack of 3 in Harrow Iceland): This is like the Bounty Ice Cream/ lolly bars, but instead of a chocolate coating, it's pineapple and mango (like a Solero). Havent tried it but I bet it's yum!, before then turning her attention to: Marscapone ice cream with berry sauce... is there no end to the Carte D'Or flavours?!! Recent issues of The Grocer add that Masterfoods are adding Galaxy Dreamy Caramel Bars (£2.40 box of 4), plus Triple Chocolate Temptation and Blissfully Creamy Vanilla to their tubbed Galaxy portfolio (both £3.15), while their "Consumers' favourite" launch of last year was surprisingly revealed to be the (completely news to me) Walls Vienetta Brownie.

Comment: This sounds great - I absolutely love Soleros, and developed a bit of an addiction to them over the Christmas period of all times (walking down the streets in my woolly gloves and hat eating an ice lolly drew some funny looks). I shall be down my local Sainsburys after work.

Comment: Bounty/mango ice creams (on a stick like solero) & mini tubs of bounty ice cream are 2 new additions to our buying list at Gala bingo. Both sell for £1.00. The bounty/mango are lovely and much nicer than soleros - as long as you like coconut.

Comment: Dear Sir,

I am writing in hope of recognition for my extensive love of Soleros. I am the biggest Solero fan that walks this planet, and have the Solero sticks to prove it. I love your ice cream, and I would like an extra souvenir for my hard work. If it should not be of too much trouble, I would be grateful for an official Solero fan certificate, which could be added to my collection. Please contact me. Many thanks, your greatest Solero fan… Chloe Smith
