Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Fox's Cubs Fruity Juice Jellies Confirmed sighting: Fox's Cubs Fruity Juice Jellies
Posted: 12:05 Thu 22-04-2004. Price: 99p/ 180g bag. Location: Waitrose, Monmouth and Bath. Sub-flavours: The smooth Fruity Juice Jellies or the sugar-coated Tangy Fruit Jellies. Nutritional unusualness: "Made to taste extra juicy by using concentrated fruit juice" (650% apparently!).
"tbp" reports: I just happened to chance upon these on a rare visit to Waitrose and was surprised as I was recently wondering what HAD happened to Fox's Glacier Fruits?! Opted for the Fruity Juice Jellies and dug straight in! Six flavours in the bag: Blackcurrant, Lemon, Raspberry, Orange, Strawberry and Lime (by far the tangiest and best!) Not too sweet and are very fruity. Entertaining story on the back about Peppy (the Fox's polar bear who is over 100 years old) and his son Pep (featured on the front of the packet) and of course that pesky fox!! The jellies are supposedly shaped like Pep but according to the packet that pesky fox has sneaked in a few sweets himself - funnily enough, the first one out of the bag was a pesky fox!!

...Co-spotter "Stuart Campbell" has more on this story: Apparently, "Peppy" (the Fox's Glacier Mint bear) has been getting some hot action in the cold Arctic, because he's produced a son, who rather disturbingly looks more like a lamb. The unlucky "Pep" has been given no time to enjoy his bear/sheep childhood, though, as he's been thrust immediately into the family business to front the release of these new soft "jellies". The six flavours taste more or less exactly the same as their boiled equivalents, but the texture is that gluey, gummy sort of one common in cheapo/ European kiddie sweets rather than either a true jelly or the firmer feel of the traditional Wine Gum or Fruit Pastille, which lets the enterprise down somewhat. Not bad, though, especially if you open the bag then leave it out for a day or two for the sweets to firm up a bit.

Comment: Think these sweets are intended for kids, but my girlfriend bought some home and oh my they taste good. Think those people at Fox's have found something addictive to put in their sweets!

Like the idea of the 100 year old polar bear getting a 'bit of action'

Comment: For your info Fox's Glacier Fruits are still going strong. I have recently bought some from Woolworths and also seen them in Tesco.

They are in lovely packaging and taste really fruity, not like other fruit brands where they taste v. artifical!

I love the sound of jelly sweets from Fox's so will keep a look out for Fox's Cubs!! Where else can I get them from -there aren't any Waitrose shops near where I live!

Comment: I am concerned that Co-spotter Stuart Cambell thinks the baby bear looks like a lamb. Lambs have skinny legs with knobbly knees. Bears are more fluffy all over. I'm glad that the people at Fox's have got this right, so at least the childen will know.
