Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: McDonald's McFlurry + Rolo Confirmed sighting: McDonald's McFlurry + Rolo
Posted: 14:31 Sun 02-05-2004. Price: 99p. Location: Padington Station, London. Nutritional unusualness: Don't share your last spoon.
"Diarmuid Mallon" reports: Returning from one of my occasional trips to the big smoke I was in need of sustenance, and not being able to face paying the massively marked-up prices at the BK on the concourse I popped round the corner to McDs so I could finally get round to tasting the Big Tasty (which it was). Whilst I was queuing I spotted the new McFlurry. The McFlurry + Rolo is made up of empty Rolo cups (a Rolo without the bottom/ caramel) and a caramel sauce. The chocolate + caramel seems rather close to the Easter Creme Egg McFlurry. Perhaps they had sauce left over? The Rolo cups seem to be too big for the McFlurry mixing machine, as it seemed to unable to stir the McFlurry. This meant the caramel rather than being mixed in the McFlurry, it just sank to the bottom of the tub. I still remain unconvinced by ice cream + chunks of chocolate, as the chocolate is too cold to taste fully imho.

..."Diarmuid" responds to some of our previous photographic criticisms here, apologising for a second, less detailed pic being "a little out of focus", as he rushed the photo as a result of "starting to get fun looks from the other passengers" on the train. The ever-vigilant UK McDonald's Promotions even claims you might get "a free pack of Mini Rolos" with each purchase, and that some locations also offer a "Triple Topping McFlurry with Dairy Milk, Smarties and Crunchie". Then again, after reading this epic investigation in The Guardian yesterday, now I'm wondering if Micky D's salads are as potentially bad for you (and the environment) as the supermarket ones appear to be.

Comment: Had one of these yesterday. They're OK but nothing special. Didn't get any free mini-rolos. Although I did realise that getting 2 * 4 chicken nuggets at 99p works out better value than buying a box of 6. Madness, I tell you.

Comment: Who would have thought combining vanilla ice-cream with chunks of chocolate would be such an ingenious little venture. I would like to see a toblerone edition though.Although to me the rolo, creame egg, mucnhies and anyother chocolate with caramel that ends up in the mcflurry just taste the same.
