Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Kellogg's Yoghurty Special K/ Nestle Triple Berry Shredded Wheat Confirmed sighting: Kellogg's Yoghurty Special K/ Nestle Triple Berry Shredded Wheat
Posted: 11:43 Tue 25-05-2004. Price: (Special K) 2.48/ 375g, special offer 2 for 3; (Shredded Wheat) 2.19/ 400g. Location: Sainsbury's, North London. Nutritional unusualness: (Special K) Mixed with "yoghurty coated" flakes.
Snackspot reports: It's been a while since I've had a chance to post some of my own sightings, but these two are definitely worth the wait. Kellogg's have not only devised a new flavour for Special K but also a *whole new word* for that milky white (almost chocolate-ish?) stuff which now coats some of these "delicious crunchy rice and wheat flakes" - the most interesting thing about them being to count how many times they say "yoghurty" on the box ("Taste the yoghurty flakes!", "Add a yoghurty coating..."), then trying to work it into everyday conversation ("Mmm - yoghurty!"). Sadly, I could only tolerate it mixed with either Special K Red Berries or new Nestle rival Triple Berry Shredded Wheat (mini shredded wheats "lightly sweetened, with freeze-dried strawberries, raspberries and blackberries"), though I'd like to compare what those fancy extras add to the sugar content of all of them.

...The Grocer magazine confirms that Kellogg's are also launching an Apple and Pear Special K bar, and that Quaker/ PepsiCo hope to exploit the fact that "90% of consumers have unprompted awareness of the Honey Monster" with bite-sized multi-grain Sugar Puffs brand extension HMs. And on a vaguely healthy-eating sort of tip, thanks to "sandworm" for reminding me that today's papers are full of Nestle's plans to unleash "diet-friendly" low-carb versions of both Rolos and Kit Kats around "mid-July".

Comment: i'd always wondered about that vague sense of unease that's been keeping me awake at nights - could it be my "unprompted awareness of the Honey Monster"?
