Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Mini Cheddars Cheesy Beans flavour Confirmed sighting: Mini Cheddars Cheesy Beans flavour
Posted: 12:32 Mon 21-06-2004. Price: 35p. Location: Shop in goverment building. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
"Psyon" reports: Taste exactly as described - I don't expect the product to last long and expected a limited edition logo somewhere on the packet (that sketch from The Fast Show where Paul Whitehouse keeps going on about cheesy beans keeps popping into my head whenever I look at it).

...And a warm welcome to (government insider?) "Psyon" here, for his short but succinct first-time spotting of this latest addition to the Mini Cheddars lineup (he goes on to add, enticingly, "The only other new item I saw today was a new cake, I didn't look carefully as I'm more of a chocolate man".) In other savoury snippets: The Grocer reports that Jacob's are spawning Baby Tuc biscuits (in Original or Barbecue, 1.05 for pack of 6 x 30g bags), Heinz are targeting 16-45 year-old women with their Salad Shakers (Chicken Caesar or Greek Salad, 2.99), and Independent Retail News reveals that Smokin' Bacon will be the latest addition to Procter and Gamble's Wild West BBQ Pringles range.

Comment: For ages I thought Tuc biscuits were TUC biscuits, as in Trade Union Congress. I don't know how I thought the TUC had got involved in biscuit manufacture, but it did give the biscuits a certain socialist glamour.

Comment: It was cheesy peas not beans! This was the original sketch: "Here's an advert for poor people.

'Do you like cheese? Do you like Peas? Then you'll love Cheesy Peas!'"

Comment: New Cheesy Beans flavoured Mini Cheddars are in fact a full time line and not a limited edition as suggested. In my store they have replaced Peperami flavour Cheddars.

Comment: Superb desk-side munchiness. Not quite as morish as the Peperami flavour, though. Pleasingly not-too-salty, too.

Comment: Probably because Britons have different taste preferences to the French, however, the real reason will be because they haven't been "tarted up" to make them look posh and sophisticated like "Freshly Ground Smoked Paprika" "Extra Mature Cheddar from La Fromagerie" and "Italian Pancetta Brunchettas with Adriatic Sea Salt"
