Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Nestle Vanilla Nesquik Confirmed sighting: Nestle Vanilla Nesquik
Posted: 10:42 Mon 28-Jun-2004. Price: 0.69/ 250g (half price, rrp 1.38). Location: KwikSave, Crewe.
"Darren Kent" reports: After emailing Nestle about their Very Vanilla flavour in the USA about 5 months ago to only be told they would not be releasing vanilla flavour in the UK due to taste differences, I was very shocked when I saw this flavour on the shelves of the local supermarket. It currently comes in a 250g container. However I would expect they would release this in the larger sizes soon. Taste-wise it tastes like Vanilla Ice cream (as if no one could already work that one out) and is very plain and bland, but still it is vanilla and is not really a flavour you can make any better. Now if only they could release their double choc flavour over here too ;)

...Top-marks to first-time spotter "Darren" for showing such dedication there, though he seems a little dismissive of the painstakingly extracted vanilla flavouring for someone who claims to be such a fan of it. (Or has "vanilla" just become a catch-all term nowadays for the absence of flavour? Discuss!) In other milky mayhem: despite the "nitrous oxide and nitrogen"-powered frothing widget in the currently advertised Kenco Cappio can, I wasn't laughing when I discovered it accurately replicated the flavour of cold coffee-machine coffee; and, in the wake of previous discussions about special milk for cats, The Grocer proudly trumpets the launch of an all-new "fortified with glucosamine and green tea extract" (60p for 200ml carton) Goat's Milk For Dogs.

Comment: In Australia they have caramel flavour Nesquik, and also they have caramel milkshakes & vanilla milkshakes in McDonalds. And as for that "taste differences" crap, sod that, the UK deserves all the nice things they get around the rest of the world!

Comment: Vanilla is such a bland flavour when done badly, and such a great flavour when done well. This sounds like one of the former, sadly.

Comment: Yep, this is spectacularly vile. Seek out the Crusha vanilla instead, which is beautiful.

Comment: I like to use Lyons Vanilla coffee syrup in milkshakes, coke and root beer. In coffee - ergh!

Comment: i recently got given a sample of green apple flavoured 'shrek' nesquik outside a supermarket... apple didn't strike me as a natural flavour for milkshake but it was quite nice in a strange way... though the milk didn't turn as green as i would have liked.

Comment: Well, I've had the Shrek edition green 'swamp fruits' ribena this week. It's alright, quite artificial sweetener-y.
