Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Cadbury Trebor Bassett Berrylicious Polos Confirmed sighting: Nestle Berrylicious Polos
Posted: 16:51 Fri 09-Jul-2004. Price: 28p. Location: Newsagents, Wakefield. Sub-flavours: Spearmint, Normal (both "Now More Mintier!"), Citrus Sharp, Sugar Free. Nutritional unusualness: May cause a laxative effect to some people.
"Alex" reports: I think these are the first new variants of normal shaped Polo (I just realised they're not Polo's) since Butter and Citrus. Anyway, these are Sugar Free and only contain two flavours, Strawberry (pink) and what I think is Raspberry (purple). The flavour is quite strong in Strawberry but pretty mild in the Raspberry. They taste quite yoghurty, and you can tell they're sugar free in the flavour. They're pretty nice and I'd probably buy them again.

...I must admit I haven't been keeping up with boiled sweet developments since the heady days of the Polo Smoothies (though would just like to clarify that I now think that Mint Original Source Shower Gel is more like bathing in Kendal Mint Cake than Polos). Still, in other pocket money surprises, "Big Alf" sadly neglected to send a pic of this tragic tale of retro discovery: I was walking through the woods and passed a place where a large bush had been for as long as I can remember. Anyways, someone had removed it, and amongst the old rusted can of Top Deck shandy and wrappers from Wham bars was a nearly perfectly preserved Booty Bag bag, you know, one of the yellow ones that had the stickers in circa 1986. Do they sell these anymore?

Comment: doh, yeah you're right - I'll go back and fix it (didn't they used to be bassett's once, or am I confusing them with other mints?)

Comment: is it like the bags they sell in woolies with some rubbishy pick n mix type sweets, some stickers, colouring in book (complete with 3 primary colour pens) and a bit of plastic jewellery?

maybe not.

Comment: Anyone remember jelly Polos? They came in a tray and you could stretch them quite far before they snapped.

Comment: I remember Booty Bags they had Trebor stuff in like black jacks, fruit salads, frosties (not the cereal). Used to sell them in sainsburys but not something I look for nowadays.

Comment: Whatever happened to the _original_ lemon flavour Polo's is what I want to know. Never really wide spread but actually tased of Lemon (i.e. citric acid). Then they dropped 'em. Replaced with the "Citrus" variety which have no citric acid in at all. Just malic acid, making them taste of fetid Apples...

Comment: To Ellie, booty bags are not full of rubbishy sweets! They are cool and taste really nice! They are made by bassetts and are full of lollies, black jacks and fruit salads!! You also get stickers and tattoos - Classy!!! I think that people should get their facts straight and try the sweets in question!

Comment: Oh my... Booty bags. I haven't thought of them for years. Every week, mum used to buy me and my brother a booty bag each and we used to try and make it last for the whole week. Them and Double Dips. *sniff* *nostalgia overload*... In answer to Brow, I distinctly remember there was a baby booty, vampire booty and a football booty - I can't remember any more but there were hundreds!
