Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: McDonald's Go Active meal Confirmed sighting: McDonald's Go Active meal
Posted: 11:55 Wed 04-Aug-2004. Price: 3.99. Location: McDonald's, Swansea. Sub-flavours: "Grilled" or "crispy" chicken salad. Nutritional unusualness: See below.
"elmsyrup" reports: This "grown-up Happy Meal" comes in a huge box. For the money you get a massive chicken salad, medium drink and a pedometer (or stepometer as they insist on calling it in their anti-intellectual way). You've already had the salad reviewed so I'll just say that I thought it was surprisingly good, with proper bacon (as opposed to those nasty strips they put in their burgers). Irritatingly I bought this at the end of a long day spent walking, but I think it's a great idea. The pedometer is a cute little thing and I'm eager to give it a go.

...Well, if this doesn't cure the West's obesity problem, I don't know what will - as The Sun points out, it's just a shame the "stepometer" doesn't show how far you need to walk to burn off McDonald's products: ten miles in the case of a Big Mac, their resident nutritionists claim. In other hot food action: The Grocer reports that Batchelors are to take on Pot Noodle with similarly priced 79p "just add water" tubs of SuperNoodles To Go; Ginsters are launching a "healthier" Deli Bake range of pastries "made with olive oil"; and Schwan are following their Stuffed Pizza Slices with Chicago Town Wraps featuring chilli beef, fajita chicken, roast vegetable, or ham and cheese fillings wrapped in a tortilla roll (2.49 pack of two, currently exclusive to Iceland?).

Comment: Bah. It's not a happy meal without the free toys.

Comment: Healthy Ginsters! Whatever next?

It's political correctness gone mad, as Alan Partridge would say.

Comment: even more heinously, are these currently being plugged on TV with the voice of the irritating woman from the Yes! car finance ad, which i personally find more distressing than the voice of the demon from "The Exorcist"?

Comment: I think they call it a stepometer so people don't confuse it with a paedometer (a device that clicks furiously like a giger counter when held near a paedophile).

Comment: excellent point, M: high on the list of things they probably don't want Ronald McDonald associated with - anything whose name might be abbreviated to "pedo"

Comment: Yeah, so it turns out the pedometer doesn't work properly. If 10 miles is 2,400 steps I am a monkey's uncle.

Comment: Apparently i managed 10 steps by merely sitting there. 60803 3
