Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: D and G "Raspberry Twist" Ginger Beer Confirmed sighting: D and G "Raspberry Twist" Ginger Beer
Posted: 11:51 Thu 05-Aug-2004. Price: 69p/ 500ml. Location: Waitrose, Bath. Sub-flavours: Also available "with a twist of" strawberry or lime. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
"Stuart Campbell" reports: Unlike Tizer Fruitz, this is just about the strangest drink I've tasted in recent memory. As alert Snackspotters will have gleaned from the name, it's ginger beer with a raspberry twist, and both elements are immediately apparent the moment you open the bottle, with a heady raspberry bouquet despite the absence of any real juice. The oddness, however, comes from the texture. Somehow, Twist manages to convey the bizarre impression of harsh, fizzy ginger beer and flat, smooth raspberry juice in the same bottle, stirred but not mixed - as if the contents were oil and water, vigorously shaken up together but not bonding on any chemical level. It's a most disconcerting effect, and makes the combination of two perfectly nice flavours actually rather unpleasant, but for sheer weirdness I recommend trying it at least once.

...Well, "Stuart", the bad news is that you may also have to try the "with a twist of" strawberry and lime variants that I've recently seen advertised on the London underground - which (who knows?) may see you championing the cause of D and G drinks once again. And in the US, BevNet's recap of New York's Summer Fancy Food Show 2004 reveals that they also have Pineapple Ginger Beer (and something called "Metromint Mint Water" into the bargain).

Comment: Well the lime one shouldnt be too weird - ginger beer & fresh lime is one of my favourite summer tipples - with lashings of vodka, natch!

Comment: You have an amazing memory Snackspot, providing that link to an earlier D&G sighting. Or is it some boffin database searching device? Whichever, I salute you!

Comment: Snackspot always use new sightings to shamelessly plug older sightings, which always makes me smile :)

Comment: cheers guys, though the site does sort of have a search facility (which, admittedly needs a bit of work), and I like to think of it as "placing the current sitings in their correct historical context" (so you can see what the same company's also been up to)

and funnily enough the only mental images I have of everybody is based on the sightings they send in - so given "Stuart's" liking for Jamaican beverages (and obscure crisps), I like to picture him as a dreadlocked Rasta farmer tending to a field of spicy Monster Munch and Red Mill Saucy Grills... 19006 5 05
