Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Hulk 4 "Monster" Milk Chocolate Bars Confirmed sighting: Hulk 4 "Monster" Milk Chocolate Bars
Posted: 13:33 Mon 09-Aug-2004. Price: 99p for 4. Location: Sainsbury's, Bedford. Nutritional unusualness: "Filled with a toffee and chocolate flavour 'mean & green' centre and popping candy".
"Diarmuid Mallon" reports: I can only presume these licensing deals for The Hulk were all done long before filming, as the licensed products are all aimed at 8 year-olds, and the film at 20+. The bar is interesting, as it looks like the product of a "What can we put in the bar?" brainstorming session. They just forgot to pick a favourite, and so have put everything they can in it. Half the filling is brown and half is green, but I couldn't work out which flavour was which. In other words - "interesting", but only in a cheap chocolate kind of way.

..."Diarmuid Mallon" there, avoiding the temptation to make a "Don't make me hungry - you wouldn't like me when I'm hungry" gag. I happened to be in Marks and Spencer yesterday, and was struck by all their movie tie-ins (some sort of Spiderman choc bars and a Shrek Ogre's Earwax Ball?) that you never see anywhere else - though of course in the old days, the only character merchandising you'd see there was their own-brand mascot St Michael. Anyway, in other green-tinged mutations: this week's The Grocer reports that Nestle will be following May's Kit Kat White Lemon and Yoghurt with a Luscious Lime four-finger variant (35p) and special Christmas Pudding Flavour (multipack only), both arriving in stores at the now-traditional start of the Christmas season in October.

Comment: Kit Kat have got plain White chcolate now.

I wonder how foul Xmas Pud really *will* be?

Comment: Nestle are going a bit too far aren't they? Kit Kat isn't the most amazing product in the world, and a lime Kit Kat just sounds vile. People are going to get sick of it if they keep bringing out all these strange fruit flavour Kit Kats.

Comment: The Kaptain lives in hope that Mars will follow in the ways of the Kitting Kat and bring him a real live Mars Christmas.

The Kaptain karried out a feasibility study last year and showed 'Proof of Koncept'

Comment: Christmas pudding flavour? The world's gone mad, I tell ye. What next? Cheese and onion? Or some similarly unholy union between the warring factions of Sweet and Savory?!

And the Hulk chocolate? Honey, don't get me started. I would not feel encouraged to buy a product if it had a picture of some luminous version of Jason from Big Brother. I don't know why kids want this stuff. Maybe they're tripped off their butts on sugar highs (from eating dubiously endorsed junk food) and just gravitate towards products that will keep them riding that syrupy wave.

It's wrong and it's bad. Blergh.

Comment: according to the news from this February http://www.snackspot.org.uk/thread.php?story=0402191317sbc

...we're still awaiting KitKats flavoured with liquorice, saffron, passion fruit, and "cumin and masala" (ie curry)

Comment: I've been been meaning to submit a sighting for the Shrek Ogre's Earwax Ball, but I guess it's a bit late. Very odd round chocolate filled with pale green marshmallow. The best bit is the till receipt. It reads 'Shrek Balls'. Urhh, Beavis he said Balls :-)

Comment: I think the curry and safron flavours are a joke...the other ones *might* work though.

Comment: I have seen the lime Kit-Cat (in Taj Stores on Brick Lane, fact fans) - didn't buy it owing to extreme penury but will investigate further. If it's anything like the lemon one it will be a disappointment... I did quite like the white Maltesers though; they reminded me of crunchy white mice (as in white mice from the penny sweet shop, not real meat white mice...)
