Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Weetabix Chunkyfruit Bars Confirmed sighting: Weetabix Chunkyfruit Bars
Posted: 13:24 Thu 12-Aug-2004. Price: 99p box of 6. Location: Waitrose, London NW3. Sub-flavours: Strawberry (tested), Apple, Cherry, Blackcurrant and apple. Nutritional unusualness: Contains Gluten, Soya, Cow's Milk and Sulphites, 31.2g of carbohydrates per 45g bar.
Snackspot reports: As ever, "Packed with real fruit pieces" tends to mean a fair amount of apple rather than the actual fruit shown on the box (or they'd say "Packed with real *strawberry* pieces", wouldn't they?). Generally, this isn't quite the fresh-tasting fruity experience depicted on the packet, and largely identical to eating a fat and stumpy Kellogg's Pop Tart - the product itself is a mere 9.5cm end to end but the box is at least 15cm tall. And, with the possible exception of a few wholemeal wheaty flakes on the outside, it doesn't have much to do with Weetabix either.

...Ah, Mr Waitrose (oh, OK then, that's Mr's Waite, Rose and Taylor), with your selection of strawberry-flavoured cereal bars, you are spoiling us - I've recently sampled a new Nestle Ski Red Berry "delicious strawberry and cranberry cereal bar dipped in a smooth yoghurt coating" (an improvement on the foul Nestle Sveltesse Red Berry Cereal and Chocolate Bar - but isn't anything?), and seen (but not tried) the bar version of Nestle Fitnesse cereal there (available in "original", apricot, fig and strawberry, 1.79 for box of 6). But their most exotic treat so far seems to be single-flavour bags of Gordon Ramsey Unique Characters (about 1.99 for small-ish bag), shown here in the form of their White Chocolate Strawberry Bombes, a pioneering experiment in combining the sophistication of up-market after-dinner chocolates with the great taste of Strawberry Nesquik.

Comment: Apricot Fitnesse bars are pretty good. They have a very similar texture to Trackers - a sort of subtle chewy/crunchy blend. One of the best cereal bars around I think.

Comment: Well, I picked this up when I saw it beside the Nutri-Grain bars. "Hurrah, something new!", I thought to myself. It is made in Canada which struck me as a little unusual. It was perhaps a little drier in texture than a Nutri-Grain but more fruit filling, I feel, which was good.Quite satisfying and better than Nutri-Grain but this may be due to a newly-discovered Weetabix bias I have. It is lightly baked ("soft golden baked bar" according to the wrapping),quite a pale colour and I am now wondering what it would be like warmed up...perhaps like "warm apple pie" to quote American Pie in a non-rude way. 66520 74
