Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Masterfoods Bounty Mango Confirmed sighting: Masterfoods Bounty Mango
Posted: 10:40 Thu 02-Sep-2004. Price: 22p. Location: Jack Fultons, Sherburn In Elmet. Nutritional unusualness: Contains 8.5% mango pieces (surprisingly high for a chocolate bar).
"Phillerena" reports: I was pleasantly surprised to see this Bounty variation in Jack Fultons. I've heard of Bounty Mango Ice Cream, but didn't know there was also a bar version. I wasn't expecting much, but was surprised to find that the fruity mango taste perfectly compliments the chocolate and coconut. It is very nice and works very well, yet is not really mind-blowing enough to buy again, unless you're a Bounty fan. It says it's a Limited Edition, so I wonder if Masterfoods are going to play around with Bounty flavours over the coming year.

...And apologies to "Phillerena", who sent this in a while back but I thought it was just a lolly version of the aforementioned ice cream - I didn't realise it was a proper chocolate bar till I read the Chocolate Review discussion and the following, somewhat less enthusiastic comments from "ami (solid box)": Never seen a variant of Bounty before, so I decided "What the hell?". Hoping this would be a pleasant experience I skipped the usual Bounty eating ritual (eat all chocolate off and then eat the coconut centre), and bit right into it. If anyone was standing right next to me, they would've seen my smiling face turn into a really sour agonising expression. Arghhh, it's Turkish Delight in disguise, that one segment took a lot of effort to swallow and keep down, I offered the rest to a passerby and promptly ran away. I'm never ever gonna subject myself to the torture of eating this again!

Comment: If you like Bounty you should also check out Aldi, where they sell a generic version of Bounty called "Romeo" which is cheaper and tastes just as good. But beware of their other generic chocolate products - their attempt at their own version of M&M's looks well dodgy.

Comment: i thought the mango bounty was pretty good. i was surprised it had real mango chunks (having not read the packet first) i was expecting flavoring only. it would have been nicer still with plain chocolate but i only saw a milk variant.

Comment: In fact the Aldi "not quite, but quite similar" chocolate products are ace. In fact their version of m&m peanuts are nigh on exactly the same bar the uniformity in shape and size. In fact myself and the wife indulged in a taste test and could not tell the difference. I wonder if they are the seconds not selected for the premium product on grounds of size/shape mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm- mmmmm. I would also recommend Aldi fromage frais as being akin to heaven, like eating the "cheese" bit of a cheesecake without the horrible digestive bottom area (np pun intended).

Comment: I also saw a Diet Coke with Lemon copycat in Aldi recently, but when I went to buy some the following week it had gone.

"I offered the rest to a passerby and promptly ran away" - LOL ami!

Comment: Snackspot's very own equivalent of "I made my excuses and left..."

oh and great theory "pocketdynamo" - some of the world's poorest M&M farmers have really been suffering ever since Masterfoods insisted on more and more stringent quality requirements regarding their shape, ripeness (and even colour!)

Comment: I've always wondered about that, they must pick them unripe as my M&M's are always hard. Not to mention the problems of cross-breeding with different colours. There are rumours that in cornwall you can buy a myriad of different colours of M&M not found in the shops on the "black market", i.e. car boot sales, appalling really, GM sweets are not that far away.
