Posted: 20:56 Sat 18-Sep-2004. Price: 89p for 8. Location: Morrison's, Heywood, Lancashire. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
"Tim" reports: I just noticed these making an unheralded appearance in the biscuit section one lunchtime when I was looking for something a bit different for a change, and they're excellent. A lovely light orange flavour, like an orangey Blue Riband with the added bonus of no dead Third World babies.

...(Allegedly - Ed.) But it's not just first-time spotter "Tim" - the multi-coloured choc shop continues with the ever-vigilant "Phillerena" spotting a Pink Echo in Jack Fultons, Pontefract, and remarking: It's crazy enough for crisps to turn "pink", but now it appears that chocolate too is on the turn. These Pink Echo biscuits are currently doing the rounds in the cheap-shop circuit at the moment, and I haven't seen them in any "normal" shops. They contain "pink chocolate" (surely a first?) that is mixed-berry flavoured, on top of a biscuit base, surrounded in milk chocolate. The taste is very odd and not quite right, as the light berry flavour clashes badly with the chocolatey biscuit base. Overall they are very poor, and not what you expect from Fox's biscuits, which are usually delicious. But then, their "Echo" product has never been that amazing. Still, Pink Chocolate - now there's an idea! (Nestle and Cadbury's take note). Still, as a warning of where all this could lead - here's a bonus weekend link to Willy Wonka (and "strong language from the outset") in... Chocolypse Now.

Sorry Phillerena old bean, I really can't let this one pass. Echos are quite simply ace, and surely deserve confectionery retail space wherever Kit-Kats or Twixen are sold.

Comment: Those Pink Panther bars were really nice. I think that weird Willy Wonka company had some pink chocolate out a couple of years back as well.

Comment: And you can get pink pigs in pick and mix which are like pink choc/candy.

Comment: Ok I admit that at first I thought pink chocolate was something new...but then after submitting I found out that it has been around for a while now. Infact Aero seems to be doing a similar thing with its orange and mint fillings, although I believe they aren't actually chocolate. 75889 5
