Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Kettle Chips Japanese Teriyaki flavour Confirmed sighting: Kettle Chips Japanese Teriyaki flavour
Posted: 22:27 Tue 21-Sep-2004. Price: Not noted. Location: Tesco Southampton. Sub-flavours: Sweet Chilli (not tested). Nutritional unusualness: "An authentic oriental recipe" - didn't think they had "Kettle Chips" in the Far East.
"choccieman" reports: Well I'm not a big fan of Kettle Chips - they tend to be rather dry and tasteless. These aren't bad but nothing special, the aftertaste is a bit hot, particularly if you're munching the bag yourself (rather than having your Doritos "friends" share them and make amusing shapes with them). Sorry I'm not a fan of chilli so someone else will have to spot/ try the other new variant :)

...You know, I'm almost disappointed that "choccieman" didn't enroll the assistance of his savoury alter-ego "crispieman" for this latest version of a product previously described here as "like chewing broken CD cases". Of course, this week's big news in the strongly-flavored fried-potato sector remains the announcement of Walkers' upcoming seasonal range, including Christmas Pan Fried Sausage and Sage Sensations, Christmas Decorations Doritos and at least 2 new flavours of Sensations Nut Clusters - Hickory Smoke and Bombay Masala (3.49/ 320g can). And in the (much) shorter term, I'm sure I'll be enjoying a tin (or two) of chocolate peanuts at this year's first-ever informal Snackspot get-together (for readers of drinking age and above) at the MJ "Hey Hey 16K" Hibbett gig this Thursday at the 12 Bar Club near Tottenham Court Tube, London (5 on the door to get in, Hibbett on stage "sometime around 9.45pm"). "Commander Zorg" might even be coming along - are you?

Comment: Pan fried indeed. That really winds me up. How else are you going to fry something? And if you do manage to fry it in some way that doesn't involve a pan, then surely that's the unusual gourmet method you should be crowing about.

Comment: You could deep fry probably? but then again who would want deep fried sausage flavour crisps? pan fried sounds a lot healthier than just "fried" in my opinion, and better than just "sausage"

Comment: Has anyone been to the crisp aisle of Marks & Spencer's recently? They've done us crisp fans proud with a revamp of their gourmet range of flavours, covertly produced for them at the Kettle Chips factory, in lovely new style packets.

Highlights of the 12 varieties to look out for are Goats Cheese and Olive [has a really distinct Olive flavour], Roquefort and Smokey Bacon [the cheese & bacon combination works surprisingly well], and that old favourite Sour Cream & Red Onion [surely this is the king amongst all crisp flavours].
