Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Peperami Sarni/ Canniballs Confirmed sighting: Peperami Sarni/ Canniballs
Posted: 11:59 Wed 13-Oct-2004. Price: 95p. Location: Spar, Ayr. Nutritional unusualness: "Possible Choking Hazard". Cripes.
"Stephen Craig" reports: "Try these", a friend proferred queasily. "They're really disgusting". Refusal was swift, before they were consigned to the bin unfinished. Therefore with that MORI-rivalling exhaustive survey of two people, I feel I can safely give Canniballs a resounding thumbs down from the random snackfood eaters of Central Scotland. The Canniballs themselves are essentially small bread balls, with some salami sausage inside. However, the bread coating itself (which is the same on both, just in greater quantity on the Sarni) is a horrible, HORRIBLE "Nimble" style bread - that seems to dissolve upon contact with any kind of moisture. Mystifyingly, the central sausage component does not seem to be regular Pepperami at all. It's much spicier for one, but unfortunately, it makes up for this by tasting like, and having the consistency of, creosote soaked plastic. Dismal. I managed three before chucking them. The Sarni features the same appalling bread substance, but wrought large - and with a non-refrigerated-compartment-safe layer of pub mainstay "Cheese Moments"-style cheese inside. And some pizza sauce. The Pepparami here is represented by slightly more palatable slices of salami sausage. But overall the effect is one of having coughed up and then swallowed a mouthful of bile. It's like a version of McCain's former Pizza Rollas. But with even cheaper ingredients. And designed to survive a nuclear holocaust. Awful.

...It doesn't sound like we can rely on "Stephen Craig" to complete the Peperami Dunkers/ Firestick set, though "Phillerena" points out that over-18s can apparently obtain the latter via the official Peperami Too Hot for TV site, so the race is on!

Comment: I'm still waiting for my Firestick to arrive. Still, I did get sent a big box of Hershey Reese's cups yesterday, but I can't tell you how I managed to pull that off. They are quite nice actually, though the chocolate is a bit bland.

Comment: Ah, my free Firestick finally arrived through the post. Bloody hell, it *is* hot, enough to make me gasp and feel a bit nauseous. But then all the spice went almost as soon as I'd finished it, and my tongue/throat stopped hurting. Which never happens with curry- can anyone explain this?

Comment: Mine arrived too but someone else in my house ate it! I was informed that it was hot too so I'm now glad that I didn't try it.

Comment: Am I the only person who quite enjoyed Pepperami Sarni? Got one in a convenience store in Richmond, London. Nasty bread but the cheese n salami combo works for me and the sauce is nice. Moister than a normal pepperami

Comment: I can confirm that the Canniballs are truly repugnant - dry, stale-feeling "bread" covering a peculiar pellet of Peperami that successfully conveys the sensation of having bitten into an insect. An abomination.

Comment: I really like the Cannibals. The bread is ok because it's offset by the spicier sausage inside. I was less enamoured of the sandwich.

Comment: Hey, I've jusr bought some Peperami Super Noodles (though not actually made by Batchelor's as far as I'm aware). They were 49p and have, apparently, real slices of Peperami in them. I've not tried them yet.

Comment: Tried a peperami sarni yesterday (D7 in our vending machine). Quite the vilest and overpriced food I think I have ever consumed.

How much are these things in the shops? It cost a quid here which seems a bit steep. For a quid, I could buy quite a few pins to stick into my eyes which would be preferable to eating this plasticised excrement.

Comment: How have you got 108% Pork in a single pepperami stick?
Posted: 17:27 Thu 21-Jul-2005 by "jb" # permalink comment
Comment: the pork is dried so you end up with less weight wise than what you started with due to the loss of moisture

Comment: I experimented with the pepperami sarni from our vending machine. I think I will be having nightmares about biting in to one of those. Utter over-priced filth for a £1. Don't waste your time.
