Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Peperami Firestick Confirmed sighting: Peperami Firestick
Posted: 13:17 Sun 14-Nov-2004. Price: Free. Location: Peperami "Too Hot For TV" website. Nutritional unusualness: 13g of fat per 25g stick.
"Chris Barnes" reports: Just received my free Firestick from Peperami's "over 18 only" website. The dramatic packaging is let down by its contents, which smell similar to a standard Peperami. It didn't taste spicy on my tongue, although I was left with an unpleasant sensation at the back of my throat afterwards. Happily, this disappeared within 10 minutes. I'm not a big Peperami fan and probably wouldn't pay to relive the experience, but it could have been worse.

..."Chris" here confirms a general consensus that this product is "hot" in an unusual way that goes away almost as soon as you've eaten it, with apparently no longer-lasting side-effects than that. Anyway, by way of contrast to Peperami's "It's a bit of an animal" TV campaign, Sainsbury's now claim to be selling a Living Lettuce, designed to be matured and harvested on a kitchen windowsill (£1.09 - though has anyone else heard the theory that "they put something in the soil" of supermarket herbs sold like this to make them die after just a few days?). Meanwhile, in other meaty mischief, I did enjoy a packet of Frankie Dettori's Wild Salmon Ravioli (also from Sainsbury's) the other week, especially when the blurb on the side explained that, from a young age, Frankie had "two burning passions - fine Italian food and thoroughbred horses". Stop me if you can see this one coming, but let's hope it's just the first of those two interests that's going into his ravioli...

Comment: I had the misfortune to get a piece of my Firestick stuck in my throat. I coughed and spluttered and it burnt a lot afterwards. Can't remember how long for though to be honest.

Comment: better than a normal peperami, as the heat gives it something that the normal peperami lacks = taste. Nothing to get overly excited about though.

Comment: I wolfed mine down on Saturday in less than a minute. Bit hot, but as said earlier actually had taste. However, was not well the following morning and had the proverbial "ring of fire", nasty, in fact my tummy has only just recovered. Personally, if I want to blow "bum fire" for two days I can think of less excrutiating ways to do it!

Comment: Spotted and tried they are free in a standard green pack. Softer then the green and red ones and they are hot, this hotness comes up on you after three or four bites. Overall not bad, still canít find any in the shops to buy.

Comment: I had mine and it almost set fire to my tung so I drank water but it took three to go out, it was hurting for 1.94 minuites, i almost called the fire brigade- it was great but it makes you go mental and say things like 'i sleep in a drawer' and 'these tar fumes are making me feel dizzy', and 'chicken necks'- Thumbs up!
