Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Ryvita Minis Confirmed sighting: Ryvita Minis
Posted: 12:26 Tue 16-Nov-2004. Price: 63p. Location: Boots, Baker Steet, London. Sub-flavours: Garlic and Herb (pictured), Tomato Salsa, Salt and Vinegar, Cream Cheese and Chive, Mature Cheddar and Onion. Nutritional unusualness: Only 3% fat.
"Helen" reports: These are surprisingly very nice. I'm not a big fan of normal Ryvita and only haul them out in times of desperation, ie after Christmas when I've put on about a stone!! However these Mini's could probably be described as delicious and are lot nicer than polystyrene-like Snack-a-Jacks! My only complaint is that 63p seems an awful lot for a crisp substitute, especially when you don't get many in a pack. Verdict: very very tasty!

...And thanks to first-time spotter "Helen" for finally tracking these down, literally days after I'd offered some to Snackspot's other patron saint Peter Baynham, explaining that they're "the new Mini Ryvitas that taste of cheese". "Yes", he agreed, "they're like Ryvitas, but they taste - of cheese!" In other crispy/ celebrity crossovers: Anthony Worrall Thompson has lent his cheery visage to a wide range of upmarket Breadsticks, Croutons and Croutini; Marmite are launching their new Marmite Biscuits ("With the unmistakable taste of Marmite") in Waitrose and some independent outlets; while The Grocer announces that PepsiCo will be unveiling "oven baked" crispbread Quaker Seasons next year (in Salt and Cracked Black Pepper, Cheese, Onion and Chives, or Caribbean Chicken, 39p for 28g bag), plus a "kids' version of Walkers Lites" to go by the enticing name of Walkers Potato Heads.

Comment: Oven-baked indeed. This is going too far.

Comment: oh come on N - last time it was "pan fried", this time it's "oven baked". I suppose you're going to start objecting to "sun dried" and "hickory smoked" next...

Comment: Oh yes..the one where her head is morphed onto a skinny body! It look me about 5 minutes to work out what had gone on there!

Comment: i like these a lot although i agree with the price being a little on the large side. i'm yet to convince my friends that these are nice, they still insist they taste like flavoured cardboard.

Comment: Snackspot, you'll eat your words on the day the pan-fried Mars bar appears. It is not far away.

Comment: Not a big fan of these I'm afraid. Love normal Ryvita though.

Comment: I tried these in September and too be honest the novelty wears off after a while. Not to mention the horrible breath the garlic and herb gives. If you have to try them go for cheese flavour. Even the supermarkets know they aren't very good that's why they hide them on the bottom shelves!

Comment: salt and vinegar ryvita minis now appearing in tesco's a lot, but NO SIGN anywhere of the apple or caramel flavours that i know exist. has anyone seen them anywhere? i am getting very annoyed about this.

also: have mini cheddar moreso's been abandoned (banned by the grammar police)? i haven't seen them anywhere in months.

Comment: Ah, the elusive s&v ryvita minis actually exist! it's only - what - 2 years later?

Caramel & apple flavours just sound wrong...but I've probably got until 2008 to get my head around the idea.

Comment: someone i know showed me an empty bag of the apple ones two weeks ago and nonchalently mentioned they were available in tesco's. i have been to three tesco's a not so much as a sniff of apple or caramel. there's not even any tickets on the shelves, so someone is LYING.
